Sir Erik Carpenter
(a.k.a. The Hero of Southscape)
Everyone loves the story of the hero rising from humble origins. Sir Erik was working as an apprentice carpenter aboard a merchant ship out of Southscape when an especially bad storm snuck up on the ship. They just so happened to be passing another vessel from Bronzeport and the rough seas caused the ships to collide. The impact knocked several sailors overboard, including Erik’s master, and punched a sizable hole in the ship. Without hesitation he tied one end of a line around the mast, the other around his waist, and jumped into the surf. He managed to wrangle five lost crewmen, including his master, before the men on deck pulled them all back up. Then, with the primary carpenter incapacitated, Erik patched the hole in the ship mid storm to prevent it from sinking. Both ships limped back to port where he was hailed as a hero. His story quickly made its way to Argostan who decided to reward his courage and selflessness with a dragon wyrmling, making him the Empire’s youngest dragonrider alive. Soft spoken but strong armed, the now Sir Erik has taken to swordplay quickly, but less so to court life. He is an incredibly desirable match for the daughter of any lord looking to add a rider to the family. And being dashingly handsome does not hurt his stock either. But how he will respond to sudden fame and status remains to be seen.
