Pseudodragons
The last, and decidedly least of the dragonkin are pseudodragons. Also called “microdragons” or “least wyrms” these diminutive creatures look the most like true dragons, with the correct number of limbs, wings, and overall proportions. However they never grow much larger than a housecat and are about as smart as a well trained dog. A person might confuse one for a newly hatched baby dragon, but only if they had never seen a real baby dragon, which tend to be significantly larger and especially bulkier. Pseudodragons were created by wizards in the image of dragons for use as familiars. However unlike drakes, dragons do not generally take offense to pseudodragons’ existence. No true dragons were harmed in their creation, so they view the little creatures as an homage to their greatness, similar to a child’s portrait of a parent. They have a knack for mischief, but otherwise make loyal and dutiful pets, but with lifespans well over fifty years, a person should be totally sure of their decision before acquiring one. Though they lack any sort of breath attack and their claws and teeth can do little more than superficial damage, the stinger on their tail does contain a venom which can put an adult person to sleep. They will wake in an hour or so feeling groggy, but be otherwise unharmed. This has led some apothecaries to “milk” pseudodragons’ venom for use in sleeping potions. Overall they are inquisitive, social, little creatures and well liked by a broad cross section of people.
