Elven riders and their dragons are paired for life, with the dragon egg hatching on the day of the child’s birth. So it was with Lyndis and Irrideon, matched seemingly for eternity, twins of entirely separate parentage. Lyn was always a stern child, rarely smiling or laughing like the other kids. She always preferred spending time with Irrideon to playing or schooling with her peers. She did well enough with her lessons, and exceptionally in weapons training, but never showed any joy in it. That was, until Irrideon was large enough for the two to fly together. For Lyndis it was as though her whole life had been a prologue to that moment: she was meant to fly. As adults the pair spend nearly all of their time away from society, scouting the foothills of the Miridian Mountains on the edge of Aeria for monsters and orcish raiders. A quiet life of solitude together.
