Some people just cannot seem to catch a break. Born the bastard daughter of an elven ranger and a human fisherman, Jayne was raised somewhat in secrecy on the isle of Newport. Though her mixed heritage would not typically be a major issue for all but the most conservative members of society, the fact that her mother was married to someone other than her father at the time of her birth very much was. She was brought up not to bring attention to herself, lest she further shame her parents for their indiscretions. Though probably not actually any less lucky in her daily activities than the next kid, Jayne was labeled a "jinx" by the other children and teased and mocked relentlessly.
Her childhood of scorn and abuse from her peers came to an abrupt end when lycan raiders attacked her island, snatching her up and spiriting her across the Norinian Sea. For whatever reason her captors saw something in her defiant eyes and shipped her off to train with the Valkyries. Used to being treated poorly, the brutal training of her new masters did not break her as it does so many young girls. On the contrary, she suddenly felt freed from her old life and suddenly able to spread her literal and proverbial wings. Upon achieving the rank of Valkyrie Jayne pledged not to hide in the shadows any longer. She died her hair a striking blue to make sure her foes remembered her. She has also reclaimed her old nickname with a new meaning, fullying embracing the role of "Jinx." But now she brings misfortune to others, rather than having it thrust upon her.
