Goatrillas

Though intimidating to look at, goatrillas are generally docile, gentle creatures. Their hulking upper bodies provide the strength needed to climb the steep cliffs of their home in the Morningold Mountains, while their goat legs provide a surprising amount of balance. The horns of these “mountain monkeys” are mostly for mating displays and sparring, while their large, protruding fangs are used for digging up roots in rocky soil. Standing six and a half feet tall and weighing around three hundred and fifty pounds, it is clear why most predators choose to leave them alone. They are strong enough that griffins do not bother them, while cave bears and owlbears will sometimes attack them if sufficiently hungry. Their real predators are mountain rocs, who can swoop down and carry a goatrilla off before its troupe can react. Covered in silver-gray fur, save for their darkly skinned faces and palms, goatrillas are gentle and skittish, staying together in their family troupes of a dozen or so and fleeing from people at first sight. Some mountainborn dream of domesticating them as ideal beasts of burden, but attempts thus far have been utter failures.
