Cardinal in Chief of the Argentine Temple
The supreme religious authority in the Silverspire Empire is the Cardinal of Silverspire, also known as the Cardinal in Chief. Cardinal Greengrove has held this position for nearly two decades leading his flock from his pulpit in the Argentine Temple and tours across the whole of the empire. He is known for his even handed temperance and desire to maintain the status quo, not pushing through many new agendas nor walking back the doctrines of his predecessors. This has been exactly the kind of tenure he was anticipated to preside over when he was elected by the Collegiate Cardinale. Whether in spite of or due to his centrist political and theological views, he has had little to say about the rise to power of Dutchess Serena or her decree to neither wed nor bear a successor of her own. This, like most of the Cardinal’s policies, is thought to be a product of his other primary allegiance: being a Greengrove of Southscape. The Greengroves are the ruling family in Southscape, and Gaius was the younger brother of the late Marquess and is uncle to the current one. The Greengroves seem to thoroughly enjoy Southscape’s status as the third major city of the empire, thus their reticence to rock the boat or shake up the order of things. Southscape sits very much in Silverspire’s shadow, so an expansionist Duke could become problematic for the city’s nobility. Giaus has had an effective stint as Cardinal in Chief and seems to be in fairly good health. However he is getting to be of a fairly advanced age, so nobles and church higher ups might be wise to start searching for his successor.
