Bulettes

Subterranean predators of the Somerset Hills, bulettes burrow long distances before suddenly emerging to eat their prey in one bite.  Looking like a bizarre cross between an armadillo and a snapping turtle, but twelve feet long and well over one thousand pounds, they are certainly an odd sight for anyone who survives to tell the tale.  And the favorite prey of these “landsharks?’  The smallfolk working their farms and fields in the Hills.  The hard shell which covers their heads and articulating plates running down their backs provide excellent protection, and their massive jaws can punch through a knight’s steel plate armor.  Seen as significant threats to life and limb, gnomish mechanists continue to try to develop effective means to deter or exterminate them.
