Archbishop Svenen Ironhide
Archbishop (a.k.a. The Beacon)
In accordance with ancient dwarven law, the Archbishop of Goldencrest must be a clergyman who does not hail from the clans of the Thanes of either Goldwight or Oreston and they are selected by a consensus of the bishops of the dwarven holds. The current Archbishop, Svenen of clan Ironhide, hails from a minor noble house, one who has earned past acclaim through smithing and on the battlefield rather than statesmanship or theology. Svenen was raised and trained to be an armorsmith, but he was always a pious dwarf and held great admiration for the lord Aurillex. On his thirtieth name day, when dwarves traditionally end their apprenticeships and select a trade with which they will serve their clan, Svenen surprised his kin by announcing he would join the priesthood. However he quickly demonstrated his mastery of scripture, and comfort preaching and doling out spiritual guidance to his fellow dwarf. He was promoted to bishop at only forty seven and, upon the retirement of the previous Archbishop, was selected by Aurillex to succeed the position at the tender age of sixty three. He has since been a strong spiritual leader to the dwarves as a whole and instrumental in the assimilation of the darkborn into the collective culture of the Morningold Mountainfolk. The Archbishop has gone as far as to include darkborn priests into the Golden Church’s clergy. As they are all new additions, none have been promoted very far in the hierarchy, but Svenen has made no public declaration stating they could not become bishops or even Archbishop some day. This idea is an issue for a later date, but is becoming a growing concern for some of the most conservative dwarves within the faith. But they are reassured by the current Archbishop’s relative youth and vigor that they will have time to deal with the issue before it comes to a head.
