Akaros

Akaros is the home of the Imperium, it contains its industrial and economic centres as well as the Imperiums Capital. Its a diverse conglomeration of cultures that have grown together in close proximity for centuries. Initially the vast mountains separated much of the land mass, keeping the small Akorosi tribes initially separated. Over time these societies grew bigger and began butted up against their neighbours. Each with differing Languages, cultures and religions, it was not long before wars and trade evolved. This fractious nature was swept aside when it was united under the Imperium. This was a decision that strengthened those that lived her and the expertise that each city state was able to contribute was turned outwards, the nation quickly gaining more land and provinces. some like Iruvia were gained through negotiation or diplomacy, others like Skovland took bloody military intervention. The land is old, dotted with dense dark forets, old haunting ruins and vast bleak mountains. City states have risen and fallen in this landscape, often even their location is lost to the twisting vines and ever present elements.   Climate The land of Akaros is generally seen as one of almost constant rain and moisture. Everything from the humidity of a dense fog to a constant light drizzle, to torrential rains that drown the land and reduce vision to next to nothing. This is especially bad in the far north, around Doskvol , it is almost as though the industry and Leviathan hunting has cursed the city. Of course this rain is not eternal and it does not fall at all times on all places in Akaros, but visitors to this shore are struck by the simple abundance of water. If you ask of any citizen in Doskvol you are likely to find them keen to talk of the ebbs and flows of the weather. The worst are The Cabbies who claim to have favourites, predictions, and wards for any downpour that might befall you.   Wildlife In the dense forests of Akaros roam many species of animals. Some small creatures flit through the trees whilst larger beasts hunt in packs below. Some, especially around the cities and ruins of old show distinct signs of mutation. Deep in the wilds, these beasts might have grown to enormous sizes, ferocious and free. Tales often reach the cities of bold hunters that have witnessed these monstrosities lash out and harm even the ethereal ghosts. Towards the cities the threat of these mutants is more likely to come from the likes of an Abomination, spirit haunted blends of beasts, thriving in the buildings rich in spirits and hauntings. away from the land the rivers and streams still harbour vibrant life from a range of fish to the Doskvol Eel. Woe betide someone foolish enough to think they can contend with a fully grown eel in the water, and even those near their spawning pools should be wary.   Culture There is no one true culture of Akaros, the city states and nations that developed around it each bringing their own tint to the land. This was emphasised by the initial lack of a unifying language. Some of the city states appear to have derivative or very similar attributes but until their unification in the Imperium division was the key. Once unified, the nation began to become more cosmopolitan. The city states that had existed in close proximity for centuries began to pool resources with engineers, philosophers and artists travelling wider than they ever could before. As the first nation to be united by electro-rail this process rapidly increased with populations from outside the island beginning to settle in greater numbers. These changes continue to happen, and the true impact of the Skovlan refugee influx is yet to be seen. Little else can be said of the culture, for differences between the bleak industrial capital of Doskvol and Ilysia are stark.   The Imperium As the Seat of Imperial power, the nation of Akaros is benefiting not only from the power and prosperity that this brings. Despite this as a cosmopolitan province there are always pockets of resistance. Some would prefer not to be involved in the outside world, focused simply on the old fueds. Others resent the influx of peoples from other provinces, such as the refugees that have fled the Unity war. This Influx of refugees is not the first to hit the province, as Doskvol is seen as a place to gain fresh starts and prosperity. Due to the length of the war the influx of these refugees has created resentments on both sides of the divide.
