The Shaming stool is a low red wooden stool, stored in the
Darknook Town Hall. It is used to punish minor transgressions in the village.
Someone who has committed a scandalous activity or low-level crime (such as short-weighting an order, cuckolding someone, minor slander, passing off a store-bought pie in a bake competition as your own) will be placed out in front of the town Hall on the stool for a period of time determined by the Mayor (usually 8 hours). Darknookers will then walk past the stool and shout "shame!" at whoever is seated there. The transgression is also recorded in the town records. No physical contact is allowed with the person or the stool, nor is throwing anything at them - such actions earn the transgressor their own time on the stool.
no-one knows how old the stool is, or who made it. It's just been around forever.
