Loti (Lo-ti)

The indigenous people of the Lotus Archipelago and citizens of the Kingdom of Eloir.
A multiracial society, humans and beastkin alike live in peace with each other on the islands.
However, their lives are far from being without strife. While being recognized as an annexed territory of Eloir and therefore protected from other nations wishing to claim the archipelago as a trading post, the governance of their islands leaves much to be desired.
Crops and other goods produced locally are often subject to heavy taxes with farmers often having to sell the bulk of their harvests to merchants from the mainland just to break even. While tribal leaders have tried advocating for change and easing of their economic burden, progress has been slowed by the Lord in charge of their region is housed on the mainland, a two-day voyage away from even the nearest island.
Matters are not helped by some Loti taking to piracy and attacking Elorite vessels , which has caused higher tensions between the Loti and the kingdom's lords and merchants alike. Some Loti favor the pirates out of spite towards the kingdom despite the piracy leading to even higher taxes for the local populace as reprisal for attacks on ships. Some have speculated that the pirates have managed to keep such favor with the locals by agreeing to sell their goods along with what they pillage from raids, circumventing Elorite taxes and providing needed profits to the islanders.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Agreements are taken quite seriously amongst on the islands as peace agreements between were vital for maintaining order between the different tribes.

Art & Architecture

Most Loti residences are built using the wood from the local trees and clay from deposits found along beaches and lakes. High-traffic trading ports may feature sturdier structures built with materials imported from the mainland like stone and metal.   In a similar vein to its villages, traditional Loti art is known for wood carvings and pottery.
