Gilramore

Gilramore is the biggest city in Azune where most of the non-humans and humans live together. Differently than Newsham, Gilramore is a free city, where all races and magics are allowed, with exception to necromancy of course. Almost every part of the city is connected with magic, from daily conveniences like lighting a candle or cleaning a cup to things more important like magical barriers that cover the entire city and powerful spells for the army.    This city is in relative peace, not having any active enemies at present, but this only counts for the relations outside of the city. On the inside, there is an ongoing conflict between groups in the city, that involves the new leader of Gilramore, Knot. Knot is a tabaxi and also the king of Gilramore, he is cunning and smart, always taking care of his kingdom. During his reign, the kingdom has gotten better in almost every way you can imagine. The economy went up, the ongoing wars stopped and the territory increased by a considerable amount. But his time as a king is close to an end. As most know, tabaxis don't tend to live as long as other races like elves, dwarves, etc, and as Knot was already 35 when he became king, it wasn't that long before his age caught up with him, making him not be able not to even get out of his bed. He still manages the city, but the folk is already trying to find who is going to be a suitable replacement for Knot.    Because of that, many different parties are fighting each other over the next king. The main ones trying to fight for the crown are Rogeiros, Daenorin, and Detash. Rogeiros is an elf who married Knot's sister, Misty, and as Knot didn't have any sons, Rogeiros would be the legitimate king. Daenorin is also an elf, who is trying to get to the crown using violence. Before Knot got bed sick, Daenorin was a rich noble who controlled part of the underw=ground of the city, with contrabanded products and such, so now, he is using his connections and knowledge to control people in his favor. And at last, there is Detash, a human of incredible intelligence. He is very similar to Knot in this way, he is cunning, smart, calm, and honest. People also say that he can read minds and thoughts but that is not confirmed.

Government

Gilramore is lead currently by Knot, a wise tabaxi who has led the city for almost 30 years now. He takes most of the decisions made by the government, but he is not the only one who has the power to do so. Alongside Knot, there are 3 members of the council, who approve or disapprove of the decisions made by him. Not only that but when the king is unavailable, the council can make the decisions for him. Each of the counselors has more authority and power in each sector. Hardenor, a dwarf, takes care of the army, Arimin, a gnome, takes care of the economy, and Erkas, an elf, takes care of the magic.

Defences

Besides the actual soldiers and mages that protect the city, there aren't that many defenses to the city, the actual factor that kept the city alive this many years is that they were not in that many wars, so there was no need to have such defenses. The only thing that they have is what they call the Great Wall, a big stone wall that surrounds the entire city. The wall is protected by several guards mounted in griffins and horses. These guards are very strong, and some can even cast minor spells. Together with that, the wall is also imbued with magic, which creates a force shield around the city. And at last, there are a total of 10 towers around the wall, that has a very powerful spellcaster in each, ready to blast if given the command to do so.

Industry & Trade

Gilramore survives mostly with their magical item market. The city is known for its high quality and quantity, making many merchants and adventurers from all over the world come to Gilramore just to buy an item. With these merchants and adventurers, they buy all that they don't have in the city, that being food, materials for building, medicine, monster parts, etc.

Infrastructure

Gilramore is a pretty structured city, having very little homeless people and active public services always when needed. They also offer the most brilliant of minds a school for them to learn about the world and more powerful spells. But that specific service is only for the great minority, seeing as they only accept 5 students per year. Besides that, the actual houses and other structures present in the city and built by the government are also of very good quality. Because of magic, they can build much more at better quality and much cheaper.

Assets

Differently than Newsham, Gilramore doesn't have that much gold in their storage. Most of their assets are kept in the form of magic items, that are sold and bought every day, keeping the economy going. Besides that, they have a very strong army, arguably stronger than the one of Newsham, seen as theirs are composed not only of armored soldiers but also of powerful mages, clerics, sorcerers, and warlocks.

History

Gilramore was created by a slow and long process. In the beginning, there was only a small village, but with time, more and more people came to the little town seeking a place to live. The more people came to the city, the larger it grew. And, because of Newsham's large reign and prohibition of magic, many spellcasters, and non-humans fled to Gilramore, making that city a place full of magic and diversity. 25 years ago, Knot, the current king of Gilramore, became the leader of the kingdom, and since then, the city prospered more and more.    Jumping more to the present, 225 years ago, a dwarf named Adnik became the king of Gilramore. He was a dictator that only got to the crown because of his bloodline and used that advantage to his own selfish goals. He reigned the land for a good 200 years, imposing his oppressive rules and high taxes, that he used for his own benefit. Not only that but he also had an organization of assassins that he used to assassinate the opposition. This organization lives to this day, but it doesn't have as much use as before. People were poor, the economy was shattered and people were angry. But from that pile of mud and chaos, one glimpse of hope emerged, Knot. He used his extreme intelligence and charisma to climb up the ranks, persuade the population and overthrow Adnik. The people then exiled Adnik, a decision considered extreme by some. After that, Knot became the king and we get to the days we are living today.

Architecture

Gilramore's architecture is way more complex and structured than other cities. Because of the high use of magic, they can easily create various shapes and engravings that would be very difficult or even impossible to be done without magic. The towers are tall, the houses have various shapes and forms, and parts of the castle hang off to the side, in an apparently impossible way.

Geography

Gilramore sits on top of a highland, close to a river, and to a mountain range. Besides that, Gilramore is located nearby the Gibwaki Ocean. The elevated terrain makes for difficult invasion, or attack at the city. The soil inside of the wall is very dry and infertile, so plantations and such inside the city are quite rare and difficult, but near the city, some kilometers away from Gilramore, there is very good land, that is used by nearby villages.
