Magitech

One of the biggest exports from Doreymos, Magitech is the marriage of magic and engineering to produce relatively stable, fairly efficient devices that are used in every scale of life. This can be anything from the common street lamp, automatically glowing in the night, to the complex system of tubes that criss-cross The 7th District and allow it to be a hub of transportation.

Utility

Magitech can be used for almost anything. Its most common uses are the ease of daily living, providing warmth, light, and transportation. However, it can also be used for weaponry, power, shields, research - with enough hard work, a magitech device can be used for almost anything.

Manufacturing

Due to its broad description, no two magitech devices are quite the same, although they frequently share similar properties. At its barest, a magitech device can be split in to a Resonator, a Body, an Emitter, and a Mechanism. The Resonator applies to any sort of power source the magitech may derive magical power from, which can vary widely based on the purpose of the device or the eccentricities of its inventor. (For example, a lighter may be powered by a crystal attuned to the elemental plane of fire.) The Body mostly just describes the casing of the item, what defines its shape and use. An Emitter is where the magical power is turned in to the desired form for use. (As in previous example, the emitter would be where a lighter would provide a fire once activated.) Lastly, the Mechanism refers to the mechanical components that either convert physical force in to magical effects, or the magic emissions in to a physical action. A magitech device can have any combination of these effects, with many more complex ones criss-crossing the pieces together in order to achieve higher efficiency or power. Some devices are even purely mechanical in nature, and are only loosely considered magitech as they derive effects from magical sources temporarily placed inside them.

Access & Availability

On a large scale, Magitech is fairly widespread. There is everything from small lighters to portable lamps powered by magitech, with even Clankbang Hummwhirr Brewers being ubiquitous in Doreymos. But there are definitely higher grades of Magitech that are only used by military personnel, organization elites, and dedicated Najda restorers. Magitech is relevant in almost every sphere.

Complexity

Magitech is a fairly complex ordeal, all things considered. It requires thorough training and study to develop and build a new magitech device from scratch, and almost as much to maintain or repair it. However, by its very nature, it does not take much effort to operate a magitech device; often its purpose can be fulfilled with a button press or a trigger pull. Many are even automatic.

Discovery

There are few records of the initial discovery of Magitech, as it has been around in one form or another since the Najda civilization first pioneered it. However, it was largely considered a lost art until about 175 years ago, when early goblin engineers partnered with human archaeologists to reverse engineer some of the equipment uncovered during an excavation of Old Tyrh.
