Merriment

History

Merriment or a Merriment happens once a quartile. In honor to the god of war and achievement; it is a time for the Veren people to brag, and celebrate their accomplishments of the season. It's origin lie in the wars of conquest; would look back, and admire their achievements. The celebration caught on with the conquered peoples, and went from a post conflict celebration to a seasonal celebration, as various walks of life wanted to reflect as well.

Execution

The Boast and Challenge:

Before the festival begins, communities of a profession, families or other small groups gather for a feast (more of an appetizer). Each attendant is expected to tell a grand tale of their accomplishments. The boaster can embellish as much as they wish, as long as the base message is true. The boaster is then scrutinized by their peers. The Challenges call out the lies or embellishments to try and find the truth. After each member has finished the Boast and Challenge, each member congratulates the other's achievements.

Showoff Festive

The next stage of celebartions is a city wide party. known as a 'showoff', Citizens demonstrate their skills in verbose displays of talent. everything from feats of showmanship to stage performers, and even farmers showing their crops. Music and street performers are common place, and the occasional verbal duel between competitors can be seen.

The Epitome

At dusk, a community wide feast begins. During which, a leader appoints the Merrian for each craft. A Merrain means the best a community can offer, and are often given monetary rewards or titles in compensation. Once the Merrains are nominated, the runners up may challenge, and argue against the ruling.

The Games

After the feast concludes, a series of sporting events occurs. Each sport is more narrative than competitive, telling a story before and after the even. Dueling for example preform a War Spark; a form of dance that acts as warm up, taunt, and oratory art, before the duel begins. Each round the story progresses until there is a victor.
