Causes

Magic Exposure

Magical energies in Dominalem changes the psychological, physiological, and neurological of an exposed creature from second hand 'radiation' to direct enhancements or detriments. Therefore, any creature exposed to magic is permanently altered on a basic level. An example of this effect in action are 'Heroes', people that can do extraordinary things like, slay armies, take devastating blows in stride, or wooing whole crowed with a wink.

Overexposure

Despite the boons that can come with magical enhancement, if a creature is overexposed to such magics; departmental things could happen. The most basic of which is tearing muscles and ligaments, or severe physiological or psychological trauma. However, the effects usually occure when overexposed in a short period. Hero's Fault, is the name for long term overexposure to magic.

Symptoms

Early Stage

Early sympotmes include, loss of memory, mood swings, random growth spurts, tissue decay, random magical manifestation, or any other alternating physical feature.

Late Stage

Late stage Hero's fault is noted by the rapid physical decay or rapid expansion of the subject's body. This is usually caused by the vicitims bodily systems no longer being able to regulate the magical radiation in its body.

Treatment

So far no effective treatment have been found.

Prognosis

The prognosis for Hero's Fault, is usually death. However, some rare cases have occurred. For example, the man who changed species entirely, or the women who reverted back to a baby. leading many physicians to believe that Hero's fault can be adjusted to provide better results

When a hero of note starts showing signs of 'The Fault' the town builds a mauslemum on the approach to town, and hosts three weeks of parties, at the end of which the patient is to far gone. They then, to the dismay of many physicians, end the venerable hero's life, and lay him to rest, where they can provide constant vigil over the roads of Veren.
