The silk comes from a specific genus of Cemex drones. The drones are only found in the deepest part of Cemex hive; nearest to the queen.
History & Usage
History
Once the Cemex became a more stabilized civilization, they used the silk to trade for knowledge and understanding. The decadent Veren and the Artful Vanaran, gave tonnes of books, scrolls, and art work in exchange for the material.
However, the Veren allegedly gained some of the silk producing drones during the second Veren-Cemex War.
Everyday use
Outside of Cemex hives the silk is used for the finest of cloths or as a replacement of chain mail in a noble's suit of plate. Recently it has seen use as Skyship sails, because of its fire retardant properties.
Cultural Significance and Usage
In Veren culture to have a piece of apperal made from Cemex silk is the high of fashion and status. Nobles often spend small fortunes trying to quire the textile.
The more practical of Veren Nobility utilize it has armor, and often wear it during battle with the most hated of foes.

In mateba anyone caught smuggling the silk out of country is executed. In veren it is perfectly legal, but the merchant carrying the goods will not want to skimp of guards.
