Common knowledge of Dolanth

Before the event, 3 major kingdoms/states held sway over most of Dolanth. The Gnomish kingdom of Degobi, the Human Kingdom of Innerset and the Elvish Collective. Since the Event these ruling states have disappeared, their major cities have been laid to waste and their peoples scattered across Dolanth.

The peoples of Dolanth are now mostly scattered about in far flung settlements and towns with little contact among each other. There are a few exceptions to this as several new larger towns and settlements have begun to form in the more stable regions of Dolanth. Most notable of these are: Lakeview, a large farming settlement on the great lake west of Orland mountains; Newhope, an up and coming town on the coast where the river from the Grimmick Marshes flows into the sea; Fargle, A large settlement said to be built into the cliffs south of Kzarnak mountains; and Skyhold, another large town on the eastern edge of the Tolmir range.

The races have had to work together to survive since the event; and the new towns and larger settlements that have formed have very mixed populations. The leaders of the 4 major settlements are currently in talks to form some sort of alliance to try and bring more stability to Dolanth: increase trade, protect travel routes, build more towns etc.

The Dwarven clans have sealed themselves into their mountain keeps and let no outsider in. Very little is known about their history since the Event, even by the few dwarves that remain on the surface. Rumours of a new race of beastfolk have sprung up, said to be a weird mix of human and animal but little is known about them. There are no end to the tales of strange beasts and creatures that now roam the land and who knows how many more races may have sprung up since the Event. With travel being so dangerous these days news doesn't always travel that fast or at all.

For a long time after the event, magic was not possible; The Descending of the Gods muted all magic use to prevent further instability. This muting has faded over time and magic use is once more possible; however, magic users are received differently wherever you go. Most people still fear magic now and while some folk simply stay clear of it others have been known to hunt down and kill magic users. Other people embrace the return of magic though most of those still have a healthy respect for it now. Stray magic still floats about Dolanth in those areas furthest from the Anomaly sites. Magical beasts and creatures also roam the land now, and in the anomaly zones magic is said to have twisted reality itself.

Only 5 Gods descended during the Event. The other Gods have mostly turned their backs on mortals, with some supposedly very rare exceptions. Though some mortals still worship the Gods it seems to be for little effect. Those Gods which descended are generally revered by most people as saviours and protectors, though they are technicaally no longer Gods.
