Souls 101

The Meta The dnd lore is definitely very broad and unspecific at the same time about souls. As far as I can see, the first chronological instance where the creation of life is mentioned on the forgotten realms wiki is the days of thunder.

This results in a problem with that the term "soul", despite being widely used, isn't well defined. Do all living creatures have souls, or having a soul is a characteristic of specific types of creatures?

The way I will use souls in the narrative will demand a more complex breakdown of what is literally written. So I will try to break down the logic of souls, what they are and how they work and why they exist.

Nature of the soul The serpents of law wanted to sustain the creation in a state of equilibrium between the metaphysical and material reality..

Souls is the way the material and the metaphysical can perform equilibrium. All souls are unique but similarities do exist enough to put them in categories.

The soul is a feature of an entity, which seems to be closely connected to its animating consciousness and the body it has, both spiritual and physical.

All living things on Nym seem to have a soul. Under ordinary circumstances, the mind and soul of a mortal are intertwined.

The word, soul, is almost exclusively used to describe the Mortal Soul that mortals possess, though other entities also have a soul that serves similar but different functions.

The known sources of energies that sustain a soul is the following. “Will”, “Thoughts”, “Emotion”. As such creatures with greater ability to perform or absorb these will have stronger souls.

More when the categories of “Vestige” and “Soul" is the difference between an evolved soul or an unevolved one. The Concepts of “Spiritual”, “Mortal”, “Nascent”, “Divine”.Is much more complex and is more of an academic difference.

As most of the difference then the souls are based on “Will”, “Thoughts”, “Emotion”. “Sapient“ and “sentient” creatures are one biggest distinct difference. What is listed under is guidelines not hard rules.

Spiritual Vestige - Is discovered in non-sapient lifeforms.
Spiritual Soul - Is discovered in semi-sapient spirit.
