Afterlife & Petitioner

Afterlife & Petitioner

What a soul did after death also varied based on destination. For example, some souls might live in pure, unadulterated bliss, with all of their needs ever met. Others might suffer in anguish, slaving away in perpetual punishment for the sins of their mortals lives. Still others might engage in epic, never-ending warfare, in a cycle of death in combat followed by rebirth the next morning.
  Advancement
Petitioners were not static. In some cases, overtime, they changed into new forms. It is expected that this process is very similar to how elves try to achieve a nascent soul but with the benefit of the afterlife location and guidance they could be granted by entities at their afterlife.

If successful they could become an nascent creature. Anchoring themself to that plane or deity. Most common would be. Fiends Devils(LE, NE), Fiends Demon(CE, NE), Celestials Guardinal(NG, TN), Celestials Angels(LG, NG) and Celestials Archons(LG, NG), Celestials Eladrin(CG, NG)

with Archons mostly were in the service of the good deities and lawful deities. Guardinal mostly being the soul of an animal that achieved spiritual enlightenment or mortals with great affinity with nature.

Especially good and noble petitioners were sometimes transformed with the help of their deities into agathinon, the lowest type of angel, forming new bodies for them.

Some celestial entities, such as couatl and ki-rin, were also supposed to have started their existences as mortal souls.
  Coalescence
Petitioners that were not advanced would with time face the limit of what a mortal soul can sustain and be faced with their end. Coalescence is what it is referred to by most clerics but also referred to as true death or the fading.

Some petitioners merge with the planes or deities. Something that can only be done by a soul in harmony and with high affinity with that god or plane. Some fade from creation only leaving behind spiritual energy.
  Reincarnation
Reincarnation was only possible if the deity allowed it and if the entities had a “Nascent Vestige”

This is because without a “Nascent Vestige” the soul would be too weak and would not survive the reincarnation on their own. Well known races that go through reincarnation are the high elves and dragon. Creatures that have “Nascent Vestige” are viewed as more valuable for deities as the can gain faith and devoted souls that last longer when the others.
