Thaumic Weave

The Thaumic Weave is the intangible leylines of magical energy that are intertwined with the plane of Divostra. Existing within the cosmos before the creation of the plane itself, the weave's true power remained unknown until the Primordial Titans created Divostra and began to populate it with mortal creatures. The Titans understood the weave was highly susceptible to influence from the collective unconscious of mortal beings and sought to use their creations to tap into the weave so that its power could be siphoned off into the Titans.
The Titans first created the elementals, creatures resembling the Titans themselves but lacking free will. These creatures worshipped the Titans as gods, but the Primordials soon discovered the lack of free will kept the elementals from being able to influence the weave. So then the Titans created creatures with free will, populating the world with Dragons, Dwarves, Orcs, and other sentient species. The free will ensured that their worshippers among the ranks of these creatures would direct the energies of the weave to the Titans, but it also led to belief in entities outside of the Titans themselves.
Gods began to emerge one by the one from the weave; manifestations of abstract concepts such as darkness, creation, and death emerging from cracks in reality to walk the plane during the Divine Epoch. In the coming millennia, heroic mortals would find their essences merging with the weave during times of great upheaval, ascending to a pantheon of gods and demigods that eventually supplanted the Titans as the prime deities of the plane.

Localization

Thaumic Locus

When a place or person gains legendary significance among the people of Divostra, it can become a reservoir of Thaumic energy. Scholars refer to these reservoirs as Thaumic Loci. As the thaumic energies of the Weave pool in these loci, it rubs against the barrier between the planes like sandpaper on wood, creating areas of thinner separation between the planes at points where thaumic energies have coalesced for millennia. In some instances, a powerful enough stressor against the barrier can shatter it and create a natural portal to other planes.
When a creature which has become a Thaumic Locus undergoes a traumatic event, it acts as a spark. Should the creature's soul be pure enough (not necessarily pure good, simply pure emotional clarity) the traumatic event will cause them to ascent to godhood as they become one with the Thaumic Weave.
