Ahriman

Ahriman is an outer god, the lord of the Nine Hells and creator of its legions of devils.

Ahriman's ultimate goal is the complete subjugation of the cosmos under his immortal rule. He opposes freedom in all its forms, whether it is the primordial force of entropy or the abstract concept of liberty.

Personal history

Ahriman is one of the oldest beings in existence, its arrival predating the creation of Divostra. Since time immemorial, it has been engaged in an eternal conflict with Valtyr and their legions of angels. This conflict is referred to in celestial scripture as the Divine Liberation, while infernal texts have dubbed it the Great Ordering.
For many millennia after its creation, the Primordial Titans had severed Divostra's connection to the higher and lower planes, sequestering the power of the Thaumic Weave for their own purposes. This isolation went unnoticed by either the higher or lower planes, who were too embroiled in their conflict to concern themselves with the matters of the Elemental or Prime Material Planes. The appearance of the dark god Kai'ossh on the Prime Material created such massive ripples across the cosmos that even those planes cut off from Divostra could sense the emergence of this new entity whose power rivaled any of the outer gods. Upon discovering the Titans' machinations, Ahriman became enraged and made it his mission to enter and subjugate this new plane that the other outer gods had so jealously kept secret from him. However, the Primordial Titans had become more powerful than Ahriman thanks to their connection to the Thaumic Weave, and the dark god was unable to overcome the magic separating him from the Prime Material.
This changed following the Shadow Plague, when Thanáta claimed the Shadelands as her domain and reestablished its connection to the higher and lower planes. While gods such as Ahriman and Valtyr were unable to traverse the Shadelands into the Prime Material, this connection did allow for lesser devils to infiltrate the realm of souls.
