Superhuman Detention Center, West Branch

The Superhuman Detention Center, West Branch, also informally known simply as West Branch is Super prison at the base of Yucca Mountain in Nevada. Built as a detention facility for jailed Superhumans too dangerous for normal prisons, it was the second such facility constructed in the United States of America after Superhuman Detention Center, West Branch.   Constructed in the late 90s, it is the size of a small town, with specialised wards to cater to different abilities, including isolation wards dug into Yucca Mountain itself for supers with long-range or mind-affecting abilities. Mostly houses prisoners from the west coast, and those deemed unfit for imprisonment West or North Branch.

Architecture

Surrounded by three storey high walls and two lines of fences, with mines dotting the area between each line of defense everywhere except on the main road, the main prison complex covers an area of about 1km². It contains both the facilities housing the wardens and other personell, as well as various buildings related to the supply chains, security and monitoring of the entire prison complex. The underground facilities are not included in this measurement.   Whilte the precise defense measures are kept secret, it is known to include state-of-the-art anti-air guns and a rocket defense system.   The main prison wards are split between overground prison buildings, made up of high security cells that include super tech, and the underground cells which are resevered for especially powerful or dangerous supers.   Two main shafts dug into the mountain serve as entrances to the underground complex before branching further out. A series of airlocks blocks the way out, all of which can only be operated from the outside. At no point can all airlocks be opened at the same time, requiring closure of the preceeding and following airlock first.   In event of an attempted escape, all side shafts can also be remotely detonated to seal off passage.   Unlike North Branch, which is mostly operated remotely, West Branch still relies heavily on its personell for supply and maintenance.

History

Construction began in 1995 on orders of U.S. President Eric Castle and lasted three years. The facility was officially inaugurated on the 11th of August, 1998, with the prison commencing its operation on the following day. Within the following two weeks, over two dozen supers were transferred over from East Branch.
