Session 2
General Summary
After a restful evening at the Golden Ram, you wake to find Tonsil asleep at a table. The smell of booze emanating from him reassures you that he spent your money well. You leave him be and go back to Gertrude to persuade the hyperactive scholar to give you more of her strange glowing potions. Gertrude informs you that you took her whole supply, and confirms that they will provide protection to the consumer should they journey up the mountain for about 2 days. You head out of town the way you came to forage some food, with Renato finding enough berries to sustain you for a day. Returning to town, you see a carpenter's shop and speak with Cecil the carpenter. He agrees to build you a wooden fortification for 100gp. As Renato explains that you need it withob 36 hours, Cecil laughs at you and explains the impossibility of your request. You agree that for 100gp he will provide a wooden wall of hardened and sharpened logs, about 15ft wide and 10 tall. He and his apprentice, Enrick, will leave it by the North gate but will not venture outside as everyone knows what happens if you leave town that way. You retire to the Ram for dinner and a rest, joining Tocco. The next morning, after another night of raucous drinking, you take Toko to the North gate to collect your wall. As promised, the wall is there, and Cecil is driving his cart back to his workshop. Toko laughs at your request to help you carry the wall outside of town, on account of him having first hand experience of what happens to folk who leave town that way, but agrees to climb onto a roof to watch over you. Renato presses a bottle of glowing lavender liquid into his hand. Lillia scoffs at Toko's concerns and the two of you take the wall between you and drag it out of town. Renato pauses to quaff the glowing lavender potion from Gertrude before passing through the gate. Renato's pupils dilate. After erecting your defences, you lay in wait. Several hours pass. During this time, Renato looks at the strangely glowing pink of the sky and the rolling field of candyfloss.
Eventually, you see some figures approaching. A marshmallow man, 2 large figures carved from toffee, and 2 swiftly moving creatures formed from free flowing caramel. Lillia let's out a cry of despair before falling to the ground. Eyes streaming and stomach heaving, Lillia begins vomiting uncontrollably. Renato pours Lillia's potion down her throat between heaves, and suddenly everything seems much better. You greet the figures and enquire who they are and why they are here. Their response is mocking laughter and aggressive shrieks. Suddenly a sharpened stick of liquorice flies through the air, hitting Lillia. The force of the impact shakes Lillia's mind back to grim reality, and the realisation that the figures before you are not some kind of conjured confectionery, but humanoids covered in the foulest filth. Feces encrusted skin, clothing, and weapons. A scent so vile as to steal your breath. Lillia steeled herself against the revelation and prepared for the battle to come.
You are victorious against the candy creatures, incapacitating them and seeking to interrogate them. Rather than do so here, you decide to drag the foul beasts back into town. As you pass through the gate, you here the sound of hundreds of people simultaneously start vomiting and collapsing as they are overcome by the odour which accompanies your return. People seeing you in the street start to hurl abuse and small objects at you, imploring you to remove the source of this smell from the town. You ignore their pleas, and continue to ask questions of your captives. You learn that they serve Ryle and that the people taken from Frampt are to feed Ryle. But they only take "the clean ones."
Growing tired of their answers, Renato acceded to Lillia's request to kill the prisoners, and they are promptly put to the blade. This does little to alleviate the noxious miasma affecting the town. You drag the corpses outside of the North gate, and Lillia resurrects the marshmallow man as a zombie, the Marquis de Frankfurt.
