Karr'an

Emperor Say'Rah

The Empress was not always as she is now. She was a Cleric of **Merrshaulk** once. A humble follower of the Serpent God and loyal citizen named Say’Ra. She grew in power as the the Yuan-Ti dominated their land and brought more sacrifices and followers to their bloodthirsty god. Say’Ra devoted their entire life to spreading the belief and worship of **Merrshaulk**, and was content with their place in the turbulent and chaotic society of the snake-folk. Eventually, Say’Ra had grown to rival the power of many of the lesser gods, and her presence at a battle was enough to break the enemy and send them fleeing.   When the Soul Wars started, **Merrshaulk** promised Say’Ra that the Yuan-Ti would be protected from the warring gods. Say’Ra thanked the deity for their devotion to their followers. In the next moment, the sky lit up as the stars fell from the sky to strike the land with such fury that the continent smashed. Cities were buried beneath ash and rock, and new mountains were raised. In an instant, the Yuan-Ti were reduced from a proud and noble empire spanning the known world, to a desperate band of refugees.   Say’Ra gathered as many survivors as she could and led them West, out of the desolation and destruction. Using her diminishing powers, Say’Ra forged these few followers into a ferocious force. They slaughtered all they met until, one day, Say’Ra announced they had reached their destination. On the banks of the Still Lake, in the shadow of a once-holy mountain, Say’Ra told her people they were home. They should build again. They would recover. They would rule once more and never again would they suffer so. During the following years, Say’ra consolidated power. She sent scouts to the surrounding lands and retrieved powerful artifacts to help secure the safety of the Yuan-Ti.   Say’Ra pointed to the peak of Mount Ksssth. “I am going to speak to those responsible for this. And I shall let them know my displeasure at the way in which they have treated us.” Her people rejoiced and cheered her on her way to the terrible reckoning.   Say’Ra climbed the holy mountain and found the dwelling place of **Merrshaulk**. The sky lit up once more, this time with the power and fury of a Cleric unleashing their righteous fury at a god that had betrayed their people.   Say’Ra returned to her people in triumph. Standing atop a dais raised in the main square, Say’Ra addressed the throng. “From this day hence, I take the mantle of Empress. I shall lead our people to glory. Never again will the gods threaten our people or our reality with their egos.”   The people cried out in joy. They bestowed upon the Empress the name “Karr’an” or “She who would speak harshly to those in charge.”   Since then, Karr’an has ruled over the Shosei, or “Saved”, and has seen their empire rebuilt. Karr’an vowed that never again would the gods be allowed to treat them in such a manner.
