Starbinding Tradition / Ritual in Dindeyyin | World Anvil

Starbinding

Starbinding is a tradition from Celetari, it’s meant to establish a deeper connection with the stars and bring good luck.   Starbinding can also be used to bind lovers together.

Execution

First you must reach the peak of a mountain, somewhere with no trees so you can see the stars. It must be night time, and the sky should be as clear as possible.   Once you reach the top sit cross-legged and set out soup and incense in front of you. You dip two fingers in the soup and scrape some dirt from the ground, making it muddy with the soup. The mud is then rubbed from between the eyebrows to the tip of your nose.
If you are binding with someone else, you should apply the mud to eachother.
The incense sticks are lighted and the the soup is stirred gently. You then place your hands on your lap and close your eyes.
If you are binding with family you can hold hands, but making sure it isn’t a circle.
If you are binding too a partner/partners you hold hands making a circle.
after a while, you will naturally wake, meaning the binding ritual is complete. Now you get to eat the soup :3 Usually some soup is saved to feed the mountain.

Components and tools

Multiple components are used in Starbinding. The main being the soup and incense.
The soup is used as a sort of offering. That is why the soup is stirred, to let out the hot steam from the inside.
What eating the soup afterwards means varies from family to family. For some it’s like sharing a meal with the stars, for others they say the soup is blessed after the binding, and some believe both. Some don’t even eat the soup at all, pouring it into the ground to feed the mountain.
