The Metal Immortals, Mechanus

Basic Information

Anatomy

Mechanus are the most mysterious species on Dimfell. Their metal bodies are extremely durable and resist all forms of aging. However, while they are technically immortal, they are not indestructible. Their forms can vary greatly in size and shape. They may appear to be made from different metals, but they seem to behave as if it is a singular alloy. Portions of the metal can even bend and feel like skin does. The vast majority of Mechanus are humanoid in shape and of incredible weight. Their bodies resist all forms of magical healing except those spells used to mend objects. A Mechanus can "die," but as long as their body is not destroyed, they will regenerate their consciousness after a time. They do not retain memories after "dying."

Genetics and Reproduction

The Mechanus do not reproduce, and all attempts to build more have failed.

Ecology and Habitats

The Mechanus are found all over Dimfell.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Mechanus does not need to eat, drink, or breathe.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The Mechanus see themselves as individuals, not a people. They do not have any particular social hierarchy.

Facial characteristics

The Mechanus have a myriad of facial constructs. Some have the ability to mimic humanoid facial expression with highly refined metal structures in the face. Some have only a stationary mask. They are varied greatly.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The majority of Mechanus live around Avroset and Zitor. While no one can build a completely new Mechanus, the Gnomes of Zitor have learned how to do some complex repairs.

Average Intelligence

The average Mechanus has an intelligence superior to that most humans.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While the average Mechanus boasts a very hardy body, they do not usually have any exceptional strength or dexterity. Their sight and hearing are comparable to that of humans. Their touch and smell senses are present, but they seem to process these inputs differently than humans do. They 4 hours of sleep every night in order to function. During this resting phase, they are entirely unaware of their surroundings. Their immortality makes the Mechanus ideal for an profession that needs an inordinate amount of time to master. They tend to excel at the magical arts, but they do not have any innate magical abilities. Mystics and sorcerers are not present among the Mechanus species. Some Mechanus also seem to have an innate ability to communicate and understand pre-calamity technology.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Mechanus names are usually derived from their coloring or chosen profession.

Average Technological Level

Mechanus have helped to pioneer much of the research into magical theory. This permeates all of their tech as well. Firearms that fire magical bolts are the invention of Avroset and the Mechanus.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

All Mechanus understand common and quickly aquire one additional language spoken by those around them. Some also have the ability to decipher Pre-Calamity texts.

History

The oldest continually living member of their race is Archivist Prime of Avroset. He has counted 4061 year spans. They have been both feared and lauded throughout history. The oldest humanoid records speak of metal monsters slaughtering people by the thousands in the Dark Age. They have also been responsible for compiling a vast store of history and scouting the unknown regions of Dimfell.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Mechanus are treated warily by other races. The people still remember legends about the Mechanus going rogue and slaying everything nearby. Some of these maddened Mechanus can still be found around the island. However with more exposure, the Mechanus is slowly becoming more accepted in society.
