The Changed Ones, Tieflings

Basic Information

Anatomy

Being akin to demons and fiends, Tieflings are marked by their horns. While they do come in a variety of shapes and sizes, no Tiefling is without horns unless they are filed. Tieflings may also have a tail, but this is not uniform across all members of this species. Tieflings are most prevalent among human populations, but each race has examples of Tiefling outliers.

Genetics and Reproduction

Tieflings can reproduce with any of the other humanoid race, and have a similar gestation period as their parents. Tiefling physiology was very prevalent among isolated groups when they first appeared after the calamity. However, the spreading of people across Dimfell has made them very wide spread geographically while not in numbers. Tiefling traits may skip multiple generations before being expressed.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tieflings grow and develop at similar rates to their parents. Their horns grow from infancy to death, with the oldest members of the species having exceptionally developed horns.

Biological Cycle

Tieflings have similar biological cycles to their parents.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Tieflings usually occupy the lowest rung in each society. They have no single leaders or paragons, and many pariahs. They are reviled for their part in The Scourge, and have never shaken the stigma of villainy.

Facial characteristics

Tieflings have the full range of facial characteristics of all humanoids with the addition of their horns. Often, a Tiefling will exhibit a strong jaw line with two horns sprouting from their skulls near the brow. Some Tieflings have extended brow ridges and chin spikes. Their canine teeth are usually sharply pointed, and their eyes are a solid colors - black, white, blue, gold, red, orange, purple, or silver - with a nearly luminescent quality.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The changed nature of the Tiefling grants heightened ability to see in darkness and withstand the heat of fire.

Civilization and Culture

Relationship Ideals

Tieflings find creating relationships difficult, and sustaining them even more so. They have grown to be untrusting of others from their constant treatment as outsiders. When they do find their niche, they may be plagued with uncertainty regarding the honesty of their companions feelings. This sometimes leads the Tiefling to lash out at even their closest friends. If their friends and allies reaffirm their commitment to their Tiefling compatriot, they will find that a Tiefling is a steadfast and loyal ally.

Average Technological Level

While they do not have any major technological accomplishments, they readily adopt its use when available.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

All Tielflings have an innate understanding of Infernal. Common is the other major language for everyday use.

History

The history of the Tieflings begins with oral traditions out of the Dark Age. Each city has legends of a time after The Calamity when their people were beset by demons by night. Some settlements made deals with these demons for protection and came through changed. While these isolated settlements became safe from the demons, their new masters demanded service, and so the Scourge began. They struck during the night with the demon hordes for centuries, razing settlements to the ground and even waring amongst other Tielfing tribes. This continued until they came against the burgeoning city defenders and their city crystals. By this time, their numbers had dwindled due to infighting and their demonic masters had no hold near the city crystals. Eventually, they began to incorporate into society, but they have never shaken stigma of the Scourge.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Tieflings treat most other species with distrust. They do feel a certain kinship with other minority species in their area, where they may find more individual respect.
