Mits & Mytes

Basic Information

Anatomy

Each individual is typically composed of a single-colored polygonal shape, with a single 'feature' - a small, centered augment or ornament. Individuals with unusual coloration or shape, or 2+ features, are rare, but not unheard of. 'Features' can include, but are not limited to:
  • 'Organic' Sensory Organs, i.e. Eyes, Ears, Mouths
  • 'Digital' Sensory Organs, i.e. Camera Apertures, Microphones, IR Sensors
  • Unidentified/Unclassified Features

Genetics and Reproduction

Much like other denizens of the Digiverse, the method by which additional Mits & Mytes are produced is shrouded in mystery. While obviously being linked to a location featuring advanced human technology, it's hard to pinpoint the exact moment one is made, as they appear to simply phase into existence.

Growth Rate & Stages

Mits & Mytes do not appear to possess a life cycle. They appear, integrate into swarms as soon as possible, then wander indefinitely.

Ecology and Habitats

Swarms appear to have little preference for their environment, and most simply wander at will. They are highly curious and exploratory, and appear to enjoy creatively interacting with their environments - usually in an innocuous way, but also sometimes in a chaotic, more destructive way.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While normally perfectly content to wander, Swarms appear to periodically enjoy 'supercharging' themselves on high voltage electrical equipment and locations of significant overlapping signal density, such as TV stations or server farms. Swarms will get close to a 'supercharge' site, then absorb a staggering amount of energy. This has been known to cause blackouts at power plants, and signal disruptions at broadcasting sites. Once 'supercharged', swarms are highly excitable and energetic - the entire swarm appears to move at a somewhat faster speed, and individuals literally bounce off one another with hyperenergetic glee. This is frequently when Swarms exhibit more chaotic and erratic behavior.

Biological Cycle

Mits & Mytes are scarcely affected by passing time.

Additional Information

Social Structure

While individuals seek integration into a swarm, Swarms don't always integrate with one another. Swarms encountering other swarms face one another, sometimes swapping individuals back and forth. While these swarms frequently merge into larger swarms, they have also been known to stop for a brief 'conversation' - swapping individuals, producing sounds and lights, flying around and into each other - before continuing separately.

Domestication

All attempts to domesticate individuals or swarms has failed. However, communication with swarms has been achieved with limited success, with swarms responding to stimuli such as:
  • Locations they have previously visited
  • Digital Media
  • Memes

Average Intelligence

Individually, Mits & Mytes possess minimal intelligence. Swarms not only exhibit Hive Mind properties, but also appear to possess more intelligence than the raw sum of their individuals, suggesting that the effect of possessing more individuals is more multiplicative than additive.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

All Mits & Mytes contain 1-2 basic sensory capabilities.
  • Any sensory capability granted by their 'feature' - i.e., an Eye grants sight, a Nose grants smell. Depending on their feature, not all Mits & Mytes will have this sense
  • A "magnetic pull" towards other Mits & Mytes. This force pulls individuals towards larger groups, allowing them to integrate into a Swarm. This effect diminishes as swarms grow larger, suggesting that as a swarm obtains more individuals, they become 'anchoring points' for individuals and smaller swarms, and exhibit less interest in actively seeking out more Mits & Mytes to integrate.
Curiously, some individual Mits & Mytes can become 'stuck' on other objects in their desire to integrate with a swarm. Individuals tend to not respond to physical stimuli, so it's generally safe to free them.   Swarms, however, are solely limited by the Mits & Mytes they contain. Frequently containing a blend of various features, most swarms will feature a wide range of senses - some large swarms even appear to possess extrasensory capabilities beyond what their visible features should provide. It's possible, yet statistically unlikely, that a swarm will solely contain individuals with eyes or ears, for example. A swarm like this should only possess sight and hearing.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

There have been unconfirmed reports of a 'mother swarm' - a massive swarm composed of millions of Mits & Mytes. Sightings of this 'mother swarm' are yet unconfirmed, but there is a significant body of circumstantial evidence suggesting it may exist.   Otherwise, there has been no evidence so far of any major establishments within the culture of Mits & Mytes.

Average Technological Level

Some swarms are capable of using Human Technologies - though this usually manifests as mischief, such as turning devices on or off, raising and lowering train barriers on roads, and altering digital device settings.

Common Etiquette Rules

Individuals that meet other Individuals begin to swarm, immediately bonding and moving as one.   Individuals are almost instantaneously integrated into Swarms. There are rare instances of a swarm appearing to "appraise" an individual. Some research has suggested that this is due to a swarm's desire to integrate individuals possessing sensory organs that the swarm has yet to acquire.   Swarms encountering other swarms rarely ignore them, and usually either integrate or 'dance' with one another for a small period of time before going their separate ways.

Common Taboos

Swarms tend to avoid radioactive locations, though it is currently unknown if Radiation poses a threat to Mits & Mytes.
