Nissa Silverfrond Character in Dierde | World Anvil

Nissa Silverfrond

Wood Elf Monk (Way of the Open Hand), chaotic good Folk Hero   --   a wood elf monk. Her monastery told her she was ready for the "World Test". To go out and wander the world to learn more, discover things, gain experience, and help people. Learn about the world. The monastery has connections with the Rockbreaker family, and so she was sent to assist them in a deed. She was told to find him at this tavern on this date to help him with moving the supplies. She was also told to be prepared to assist those in need and to help protect the dwarf.     --   Nissa's clan lived in the woods beside a monastery high on the mountainside. The monastic icon is the Owlbear. The monks revere a family of owlbears and have coexisted with them for generations. They often traded back and forth and had a communal relationship with the monks as many elves from the clan would go there to study and vice versa. When Nissa reached maturity she entered the monastery to study and train. Now she has finished her monastery training and is going out into the world to learn more about herself and her skills.   Her family, a large clan, lived on the SE of Hulla-Putyor (old common: Kyeft) and traded with others who came to the continent also working closely with the Monstery of the Black Owlbear that resided nearby.   Her leaving was more than just the standard "go and learn" that the monks do, but she was also to learn and spy on the world. Be aware of any growing threats.   Backstory   The wood elves live deep in the heart the woods, guided by a council of elders that preside over the entire elf population there. Nissa lives on the edge of the forests, closer to the coastline, with her family but she has blood ties to the council. The elves, especially the council, never leave the shelter of the wood but Nissa often goes back and forth between the two villages, one of the few that do. Because of her familial ties to the council, they approached her and asked her to be the eyes and ears for them. They want to be kept informed of the world and what dangers might threaten the wellbeing of the elf population.   Just past the treeline of the forests, nestled in the side of the mountain is the Monastery of the Black Owlbear, named such for the large population of owlbears that have presided in the forests surrounding the monastery for 100s of years. The council of elves secretly and silently run the monastery in whatever capacity they need. The council sent Nissa to the monastery to learn and be given the skills needed to be their spy out in the world.   The monastery developed the practice of the "world test". Whenever a monk has reached a certain level of skill they are sent out into the world to see what more they can learn about themselves and to further develop their skills. When the monk decides they have learned everything they can, they can return to the monastery to teach and train the new generation of monks. Nissa's "world test" was more than just "go and learn", she is meant to be the spy for the council.     --   Her family, a large clan, lived on the SE of Hulla-Putyor (old common: Kyeft) and traded with others who came to the continent also working closely with the Monastery of the Black Owlbear that resided nearby.     --   Gasren is a friend of the monastery having traded with them often and frequently stays at the monastery during his various trading trips. On one occasion he told a story of finding a cave with his brother that held something of great power and magic. He was looking for men and supplies to help him mine the cave. The elf council sent Nissa to aid Gasren and find out more about this magical item to make sure it is of no threat to them.   At a Glance: • Wood Elf Monk • Way of the Open Hand from an Owlbear Monastery   Relationships: • Master • Uncle on Council   Personality Traits: • I’m confident in my own abilities and do what I can to instill confidence in others. • I judge people by their actions, not their words.   Ideals: • Sincerity.
