Van Sturing, a wanderer from parts East, was hired as Fleet Commander by the Rauche family of Tenpin at the beginning of this age of conquest, in 1554. As Commander of the SAS Bimmar, Van Sturing shortly took control of a fragment of the Rauche fleet, and now uses it to pursue his own goals.
Sturing does still work for Delia Rauche, but he also runs errands for Caper City and Marino, all in the service of building his own web of power. Van Sturing’s web is tenuous but wide, stretching from Sharing to Caper City, Marino to the Mud Pots. But it is too ambitious and built on weak foundations. He rarely gets everything he expects from anyone he employs.
Van is not trustworthy, but he can be trusted to stick to his patterns. He is such an excellent military commander that his benefactors are willing to take the bad with the good. For the moment they excuse his sidelines, because Delia Rauche and her bother Severin Hollard believe they can rein him in when the time comes.
