First a brewer, then a lawman, and now a moneylender in Willough, Sen Duran Shalot is an experienced merchant and makes deft bargains, especially in the field of ship construction and repair.   Sen acts as part-financier, part-owner in several unrelated businesses in Willough and Egar. Having consolidated a bit of wealth as a brewer, then making several valuable contacts as a lawman, he now lends money to blacksmiths, shipwrights, bakers, brewers, and brothels from Weter to Fannuck, providing advice and financing to these businesses in exchange for a stake.   Sen also has access to muscle, thanks to connections from his days as a Willow. Typically he uses these acquaintances to defend his investments, though in recent months he has fallen more an more to using these thugs to pressure unwilling partners to join and remunerate him.   Sen lost his first wife to a fever at nineteen, and now feels the tightening grip of middle age. The seeds are falling, and Sen’s patience gives way to desperation. He tries something newer and crazier every year, searching in the strangest places and ways for a new wife and better life, which may exist only in his mind.   To this purpose, Sen has begun wooing the courtly ladies of Fannuck and Green Lake, with no success. His colleagues are merciless, mocking his feeble attempts to appear younger and more virile. He tolerates their teasing for now, but a frustrated anger is building inside him as he continues to search for a path into the life that he feels has been stolen.   This isn’t going to end well.   Pronouncing Shalot: Sen says his name rhymes with “ballot” but branches of his family pronounce it in a more old-fashioned way, “shel-OH.”
