Neb Gaspar is a first cousin of Wila Gaspar, wife of Lantry Ewen. Neb is a navy recruiter for the Bowers family, a Marino trading family with a small fleet of twelve cargo ships and fifty-odd stunt and survey craft.
Neb was raised in Sellersport, Marino, and attended the Fenton Airman’s College. Though her parents strictly forbade her to leave the city, Neb did exactly that after a failed and embarrassing romance with a professor at the College called Simone Iriz.
Neb then signed on as a surveyor with the Bowers Trading Co., at age 26. She now sails the skies of Dearworth doing research and support work on a small scout vessel operating from First Flower Docks in Willough.
But secretly, Neb is a spy for Hightower’s Navy. She was recruited while at the University to glean information about the Bowers fleet, in an attempt to bring them under Hightower control. Her affair with Professor Iriz was real enough, if brief, but it served more as a ready excuse for Neb to escape her family and for Wilem Hightower to place her aboard the first vessel bound for Dearworth. Now Neb observes and reports on the politics and power struggles in Tenpin and parts west.
Neb's allegiances are mixed, and though this placement was a handy opportunity to steal away from the smothering safety of her family in Marino, the more she learns about the machinations of the Hightower family, the less comfortable she feels helping them. Wilem has leverage, of course, but at some point in the near future this situation will hit a breaking point.
