Lantry Ewen Character in Dew Point | World Anvil

Lantry Ewen

  • Full Name: Flight Commander Lantry Chas Ewen, Ret.
  • Gender: M
  • Profession: Tailor, Retired Naval Officer
  • Age in 1554: 24
  • Birthplace: County Curth
  • Residence in 1554: In Service, Dearworth Valley
In 1554, Lantry Ewan is an officer in Hightower’s Navy, commanding patrols and defense actions throughout the Dearworth Valley and beyond.   During the period of After the Fog, Lantry marries Wila Gaspar in Lowers Rest and raises three children, Falk Ewen, Galiard Gaspar-Ewen, and Eva Gaspar. Lantry retires from the navy in 1557, the year Eva is born, and acquires a tailor shop and a small orchard in County Curth, on the shores of Loer Lake.   Wila Gaspar is the family’s nurturer and anchor. She manages the family’s land holdings, which includes three small orchards, two lakeside vineyards, and many acres of farmland.   Following a harsh winter in 1570 and mounting financial difficulties, Lantry’s children advise him to invest in Ragweed and lapis butterflies, but because of his resentment towards the Hightower Navy, and well-founded misgivings about entering a volatile commodities market, Lantry refuses to change his business. This disagreement, and the family’s deteriorating finances, lead Falk to enlist in the Royal Navy in 1568. Galiard follows shortly afterward, in 1571. Eva follows after her siblings some years later on her own unique adventure.   Even though a naval career is exactly what he did not want for his children, Lantry understands that this outcome is to be expected, given his own adventurous nature and his history with the Navy. Lantry only wishes better fortune for his children than he had himself.   The full story of Galiard Gaspar-Ewen is told in The Conscript.   The story of Eva Gaspar is told in the supporting material for Sparrow.
