High Shally

Technically, the entire Dearworth Valley is also “High Shally,” as that’s the name of this river until it reaches Tenpin Lake. But the term "High Shally" is usually reserved for the mostly unexplored region of canyons and scrub lands south of the river, between the Weterbranch River and the Cockerel Spur.   Towards the west end of this region, on the big bend in the Cockerel Spur, lies the sleepy farming town of Dowery. An abundance of local gem and gold mines has made Dowery unique in the world as a hub of prospecting, mining, and jewelry making, and the merchant families of Dowery are among the wealthiest in the Highlands.   Dowery has always been a fairly clear city, with blue summers and white fog winters spanning 1300-1450. Since 1450, Dowery has been completely clear and safe, far from the dangers of Tenpin and the rest of High Shally, and content to grow its crops of wine grapes, apples, and seasides.   A seaside is a smooth-skinned plum-like fruit that ranges in color from orange to light purple. It is one of the few lighter-than-air fruits in the Highlands, which break from the trees in late Summer and float for miles.   As such a comfortable city, Dowery has never had the ambition to expand its boundaries or influence. However, agents of the larger cities, stretching all the way to Marino, have quietly built up invisible power bases in Dowery, and work tirelessly to turn the city’s wealth to their own ends.
