Trains, Alcohol, and a Nice Hat

General Summary

A train ride. Sure, it might be cross-continental, but how hard can it be? Apparently, when you start up moonshine production, and have a kobold who is very possessive of his hat, quite.   The session began with Griznii, the resident Hobgoblin Alchemist/Sapper/Problem-Remover, meeting up with Leopold, a discharged Imperial officer, and Volker, an ex-halberdier of the Imperial Army. Working together, they managed to set up an alcohol still in one of the train carriages, avoiding the attention of the imperial soldiers on the train both through their ex-military connections as well as a handy ration of alcohol for the troops.   Later on, the Imperial Trio encountered both a young Skovan female - Mira, and a kobold with a strange obsession with trains and a nice hat - Intzi. Initially considering them as nothing more than customers, or in the case of the kobold - an annoyance, they slowly grew on the Trio, and over time, they were offered a place in Expeditionary Vanguard 36.   During the journey, the party, now sitting at 5 members, encountered a hulking giant of a man, so large that he had to huddle within the train carriage. Approaching the recently formed booze-crew, he casually withdrew and paid for his entry and his "tab" with a single Platinum Skaarg Pennig, much to the shock of the party. He quickly laid claim to the alcohol supply, putting the cauldron it was being stored in under his arm, and making his way back through the train, the crowds parting around him.   The party faced a dilemma. How do you make alcohol without a container? Thus, the quest to acquire a suitable vessel began. Volker, through a combination of bad luck and a misunderstanding managed to acquire a bedpan, whilst Intzi, the Kobold managed to acquire a used drum designed to hold pig-fat. Opting to use the drum, the party once more began production, quickly responding to the alchemical mishap caused by the residue in the drum.   Eventually, the party began to draw near their destination, alerted to such by the large cloud of soot and smoke filling the horizon. Pulling into the expedition staging grounds, the party was greeted by the sights of rows of trains, laiden with wagons piled to the brim with men and supplies. Hastily constructed forges and factories scattered the grounds, billowing acrid smoke into the air and pumping viscous sludge into the bay that formed the main core of the staging area.   Slowly coming to a halt they were greeted by the sight of how they shall be embarking on their expedition. Hundreds of Imperial warships, ranging from newly constructed Ironclads, glimmering periodically from the rays of light piercing through the smog, to ancient, mothballed wrecks hastily repaired to be seaworthy. Truly, judging by the many colours flying from their masts and the thousands of men frantically lugging supplies to and from the trains and ships, the sleeping giant that is the Imperial Realms seems to have awoken.
