Tribatus Organization in Deus Irae: Falling Night | World Anvil

Tribatus

Tribatus is an old dog in the world. Famous in it's heyday for it's exploits and praised for it's shiny coat, sharp teeth, and proud tail. Now it is more prone to sleeping the afternoon away, and more likely to lightly walk places, rather than the energetic fervor it once everywhere with.   It's legions are reduced, but still one of the most highly effective fighting forces in the known world. The capital, Syrphesus, is a sprawling metropolis that brings in wealth like bees to sugar despite many of it's old trading partners having vanished into the sands of time.   You might not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but Tribatus isn't out of tricks yet, and the kings and queens of the world would be good to remember that, or risk getting bit.   Tribatus is an ancient country that made it's power through it's organization. A tight bureaucracy kept everything running smoothly, and made sure that what was needed got where it needed to be. The Senate allowed for the people to have a stake in the nation, creating a loyal and patriotic citizenship (something new during the time of the nations birth). Advanced architecture created buildings that still stand today, and are used for infrastructure even in territories no longer under the control of Tribatus.   Perhaps the most important tool at their disposal, the legions, were highly trained and well equipped. Using advanced tactics on the battlefield that allowed them to take on forces much larger than their own with ease. They defended the nation on all sides, as well as conquered new and exotic territories, further growing the country. In a counter intuitive way, the legions even helped to integrate the conquered peoples into the nation. Allowing anyone to fight in the legions for a set period to earn citizenship. Tribasic through spilt blood, so to speak. A practice they maintain to this day.   Phenomenal record keepers, they know exactly how many people are in a specific town, where the separate families live, how much livestock each one owns, how much land, and even if they plan to expand any or all of those things. It's to the point that it's straight up bizarre when Tribatus doesn't know where something is. They either know it's location and when it got there, or when and where it was lost. Almost never do they have no idea at all.   Only the record keeping and the Senate have survived in it's original form to today. The other things that made the nation a powerhouse diminishing over time. Reform has been discussed, and many young Tribasic are trying to bring that change about but are struggling under the sheer weight of bureaucracy above them.   Their gods tend to lean towards civics, such as construction and engineering, and war. Specifically the command of men.

Structure

The Senate sits at the top of Tribatus, making the decisions for the country. Major issues are decided by majority vote, cast in secret after any prospective opinion is given a chance to air itself.   Below the Senate are the territorial governors. They do most of the day-to-day decision making, and once they've held their seat for long enough are eligible to become senators. After that are various high ranking military personnel, which are highly integrated into Tribatic society.   At the bottom of the social hierarchy are those simply called Citizens or 'Municivis'. These people are either born to a Citizen family, or have completed the required military service to earn their citizenship. Now there is technically another group that exists outside the hierarchy. That being the Plebs. Those that have not achieved citizenship, and as such are not allowed to take part in the republic itself. They are not viewed negatively, per say, but they are often ignored by those in charge.

Culture

The Tribatic culture itself is self-centered. Meaning that it holds itself up above all others.    There is an inherent drive built into it that pushes its constituents to actively seek out and attempt to homogenize other cultures into it. Usually though force, as you can see with the ancient Tribatic incursions.    It instills loyalty to one's country, as well as a sense of civic duty. The culture isn't resistant to change, either. Often adopting aspects of the peoples and cultures it brings into itself. Such as the Toteuml the traditional piece of clothing of Tribatus that consists of a single continuous piece of fabric wrapped around the body.

History

Part of the reason for the nations fall from grace was due to a protracted political struggle that lasted several centuries of varying conflict.   Tribatus, founded on the idea of a republic, was beset by wannabe kings and dictators. Three divine families rose up and attempted to overthrow the Senate before failing and devolving into infighting between themselves. The Three-Color War, as it was named for the three original families, was a protracted conflict of pretenders and warlords attempting to seize power. They fought the Senate, but mostly they fought themselves while the Senate locked down it's own territories. Most of the countries foreign territories collapsed on themselves, and fell to revolution or foreign neighbors.    By the time the conflicted ended and the Senate reasserted itself, Tribatus was greatly reduced. It still suffers the aftershocks of the war, tensions flaring up occasionally, or the odd family attempting to recapture the nations old territories to boost their status. Usually ending in spectacular failure. Sometimes even abysmal failure.

Demography and Population

Tribatus itself isn't that diverse, mostly Tribatics living within the boarder. Outside their boarders, however, it's not uncommon to find Tribatic people intermixed within a nations natural population. Leftovers from their conquering days, or trading crews and merchant caravans that got trapped when the Three-Color War broke out. Those groups rarely have any loyalty to the nation anymore, but there are a few holdouts. Very few, but they're there.

Military

Tribatic uniforms have a white base, with highlights of other colors. The other colors were determined by a variety of factors, though modern uniforms mostly take them from the noble house that they hail from. Reds, greens, blues, golds, etc, are common sights on the shoulders and chests of the legions. Purple, however, is reserved for soldiers loyal to no noble house. Most often viewed as the soldiers that fight for Tribatus, and Tribatus alone.

Foreign Relations

Many of their neighbors remember what the nation was in it's prime, and as such are cold towards the nation. A few see it's diminished state as an opportunity, hoping to ingratiate themselves for when Tribatus rises again.    The Senate knows the nations position is tenuous at best, and as such is not as prone to seeking a military solution as they once were. It is good that the diplomatic corps was once known the world over as well as the legions.
