Sabháin Organization in Deus Irae: Falling Night | World Anvil

Sabháin

Sabháin is, perhaps, more known for it's physical location over it's historical exploits.   If you were to ride towards Sabháin, one might think that the season had been suddenly changed by an act of divinity. Around you, the trees would remain green and the flowers in bloom. In front of you, it would seem like an early winter snowfall had happened. The ground and trees coated in a fine white/grey powder. Animals of the forest still make their way through the unexpected whiteout. An owl dives into the powder and comes up with a fieldmouse. A strange-looking stag picks it's way past. And a man, naked from the waist up, lands in your cart, swinging an axe towards your throat.   Welcome to the Ashwoods.   Sabháin itself lives and dies by it's lumber industry. Dozens of mills throughout it's borders harvest the Ash Pines, which grow so fast the rate can be seen with the naked eye. Light but strong, the lumber is used for everything from boats to horse carts to the building of houses. Being the only place that trees like this grow, they are guarded jealously. Illegaly harvesting the trees is punished harshly. Citizens will face jail time. Foreigners will be shot.   The country used to be known for it's crafts, both godly and not. Of course constructed from the lumber from the Ashwoods. Tools, furniture, art pieces, spear shafts, arrows, axe handles, and a dozen other products. Though their popularity has fallen out of vogue for the time being, they are still commissioned time to time. The wider world might have moved on from their crafts, and the clamoring crowds are no longer there, but there will always be someone out there who knows better than to listen too closely to what is popular.   One thing that hasn't gone out of style, however, is a woodsman of great skill, which Sabháin can continue to provide. Hired as scouts, guides, hunters, and the like. Many of them are gods of nature and the hunt, furthering their skill to an unearthly degree.   As such, many of their gods are centered around the conquering of the natural world. They also have a reputation for operating alone, with their pantheon basically operating totally separate on all fronts and only coming together in small groups.
