Collective Subconscious

The Collective Subconscious is a unique space that exists between the mindscapes and dreamscapes of different people. This shared mental realm serves as a meeting point where the thoughts, emotions, and experiences of multiple individuals intersect and intermingle. Essentially, the collective subconscious acts as a threshold between the individual mindscapes of each person, serving as a liminal space that bridges the gap between these mental realms.

Manifestation

Links between different mindscapes and dreamscapes in the collective subconscious are formed through familiarity and shared experiences between individuals. Skilled psions can use these links to travel through the collective subconscious and enter people's mindscapes, regardless of their physical proximity. However, each link traversed increases the mental strain of the connection, as does the relative strength of the link. People who are in near-constant contact and are very familiar with each other will have a link that is like walking down an open road. On the other hand, those who only recognize each other in passing and have never interacted more than once may have a connection that is more like climbing a sheer cliff face. There is a forbidden practice among psions that involves artificially bridging new connections within the collective subconscious. This practice is restricted for two main reasons. First, creating strong links between two unfamiliar individuals can have unpredictable effects in the physical world. Second, these artificial links are prone to failure and may disappear as soon as one of the affected individuals realizes the discrepancy in their memories. If a psion is passing through one of these links when it is severed, their mind may be lost in the collective subconscious, unable to return to their physical body.
