Resource Scraper

Resource scrapers are a modification that can be added to vehicles, allowing them to collect and harvest materials from the fragments of broken rock and the Desolate Ring surrounding the planet.
They are most often used to collect asteroid ice, the primary source of new water. However, they can also be used to harvest other important or useful materials, such as zerosilver, from the rocks.
Resource scrapers come in many different forms, but typically require some sort of place to deposit any resources collected. A ship that a resource scraper is added to must have some sort of cargo bed - the larger, the more materials that can be carried. However, there is a balance that must be struck with this - if a ship becomes too large, it risks not being maneuverable enough to weave through the rocks and debris where these resources can be collected. As such, many craft with resource scrapers will have 80% of the craft dedicated to cargo space, leaving 20% for the pilot, personal belongings, and somtimes tiny living quarters for the person operating the vehicle.
It is recommended that anyone operating the scraper have a dedicated starpilot separate from the person operating the scaper itself. This is for safety reasons, as flying a craft as well as operating the machine can require a lot of attention and multitasking. However, some choose to ignore these warnings, working alone despite the risks.
Access & Availability
Resources scrapers are somewhat difficult to obtain, and require specific components to attach to a ship. As such, only those who have made it their living spend the time and effort required to obtain and attach one.
Complexity
In order to implement a resource scraper, there are specific mechanical components required in a vessel. Most ships are not manufactured with these components, meaning people using resource scrapers must be familiar with mechanics to attach them.
