Hafara Khamaask

Hafara's khamaask (or "inn," in Eilisian) is the most popular lodging for overseas visitors or traders in Rasell. Providing accommodations and meals, as well as a large lounge where visitors can mingle, the owners do their best to fulfill the needs of their visitors and make their stay as pleasant as possible.

Purpose / Function

The Hafaran khamaask was established to provide a place for Rasell's overseas visitors to stay. While most Rasellans are open to hosting visitors, the amount of traffic Rasell received was overflowing the city's capacity, so the khamaask was established. It not only provides lodging, but also meals and a large visiting lounge, and it attempts to provide a pure Rasellan atmosphere to welcome its visitors.

Alterations

The khamaask started out as a large house owned by a young Rasellan couple. They adapted the lower level early on to feature a large dining space, but the building was still rather small for its purpose. Once they'd brought in enough revenue, the couple bought a property next door and had it connected to the original house. It was at this point that they started drawing up plans for a lounge near the dining room, though they didn't yet have the space for it. After a few more years, they added on a property on the other side of the original house. It was then that they put in the lounge, as well as a sizeable balcony across the back of each secondary property. The roof across each balcony was replaced with beams that would support grape vines to give them some leafy shade.

Architecture

The khamaask is constructed of sandstone and features Moroccan-style architecture. There are floral murals on each end of the building, and elegant carved designs all across the front and inside. The windows have patterned brass frames. Mosaic flooring is common in the public areas, and the private areas are tiled with more subtle decorations and patterns.

Tourism

Rasell is primarily frequented by overseas travelers and merchants of all varieties. Virilens, Sacharans, Mordonites... As well as some western travelers from Teraco who stop by on their way farther east.   Most travelers admire Rasell's peaceful, green atmosphere, and the artistry that goes into everything they do. While few have business in Rasell itself or never go past the port, they appreciate their stay in between other things.   Four parts of the khamaask are the most popular: the dining room, the lounge, the balconies, and the roof.   The dining room is popular for its food, of course. The khamaask owners serve two Rasellan meals, as is customary, featuring figs and seafood heavily (among other things). They also toss in foreign meals now and then, both to provide a different experience to some of their guests and to make those from the featured culture feel more at home. Regardless of the meal, the cooking is always exquisite and highly-praised by the khamaask's patrons.   The lounge is where visitors and locals alike can mingle and learn from each other. Often, local Rasellans will stop by to hear stories of far-off lands and to experience the broad variety of cultures present. Likewise, foreigners will sometimes take the opportunity to interact with people they wouldn't otherwise and hear of new places and experiences. The lounge also provides an open and peaceful environment for visitors of the same culture to say hello and hold their own conversations.
The lounge's pool is also popular.   The balconies are often a more popular place for existing groups to congregate, since they often provide a more private atmosphere. They're also popular among quieter travelers who want to enjoy the sea breeze—and the view—and some peace and quiet.   The roof, similarly, is popular for its view of the ocean and the city, and its openness to the breeze. It hosts many of the same types as the balconies, but parties have also been known to occur on the rooftop after dark.
