Structure

Jackdaws a small, yet powerful. division in the Hierarchy armed forces. While Bluejays hunt down for any trace of Errus technology from faraway systems, Jackdaws hunt down technology within known space. They are also known for assisting xenologists as their goals align.
Due to the immensity of space and the time lag that is characteristic with sending messages across space, military divisions and armed forces have a great deal of freedom in how they operate. Jackdaws are no different. They do, however, have the added choice of operating independently or with a small team.
As usual, Jackdaws send regular reports back to their superiors. This allows the Hierarchy to remain up-to-date with events and missions that Jackdaws undergo.

Public Agenda

After the realization that there is likely much more Errus technology scattered throughout known space, the Jackdaws were founded to retrieve it. This has become the primary goal for their organization.
Many who have not directly dealt with the Jackdaws see them as mere scavengers, searching for Errus technology and leaving nothing behind. The stories of those who have dealt with them tell a different story, one of nobility and generosity.

Assets

The most important asset for any interstellar organization, be it military or civilian or commerce, is the ships. And like most ships, the ones utilized by the Jackdaws are heavily antiqued. A widespread material shortage has affected every corner and aspect of Cirrlyr society. Thus, many ships are renovated and repaired for as long as possible.
While the ships are antiqued, the software is not. Because the Jackdaws are flying within known space, little emphasis has been placed on a biological pilot. An AI is able to pilot a ship far better than a Kelmir with a three-dimensional map, at least when known space is concerned. This allows the Jackdaw to focus on other tasks.
The heavy criticism of the Jackdaws has led to frequent lack of funding or resources for their goals. This has led great difficulty in purchasing after-market equipment or repairs. It also means that the Jackdaws have a fairly basic armory with standard weaponry. Their armor in nothing to speak of as it is fairly standard in terms of the armor of other divisions. The same can be said for their weaponry.
