Basic Gameplay Rules

Resting

Short Rests work per the Rules As Written.   Long Rests are disabled during game sessions. Characters can gain the benefits of a Long Rest upon returning to any R.E.C. base (i.e. between sessions). This only counts as a single Long Rest (you will only regain ½ of your Hit Dice per session).   Additionally, prepared spell lists cannot be changed mid-session outside of a Long Rest, so prepare properly for your adventure before leaving the base.

Encumbrance

The full encumbrance rules listed in the PHB will be used:
  • Up to Strength x 5 = Unencumbered: No penalties.
  • Up to Strength x 10 = Lightly Encumbered: Movement speed -10.
  • Up to Strength x 15 = Heavily Encumbered: Movement speed - 20 (total), gain disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws using STR, DEX, and CON.
Additionally, the DM will regularly double-check the contents and carrying capacity of backpacks (etc.) to ensure they are not overloaded, lest they burst at the most inopportune moment and scatter your items across the wilderness.

Compensation

Previous R.E.C. rules provided a system of Marks as currency in exchange for valuables discovered by Expeditionists. Thanks to recent developments, this is no longer necessary: Empress-Saint Sona has approved a bill for the indefinite funding of the Redshift Expeditionary Commission.   All Expeditionists are entitled to be provided with standard, mundane adventuring supplies on an as-needed basis. The R.E.C. as a whole is entitled to receive any materials necessary for construction & defense in The Redshift Zone on request. Newly made Obelisks are additionally more readily available thanks to this resource.   Expeditionists are assured that, as always, their careers are intact: all retired Expeditionists will receive a salary as a lump sum upon returning to the Holy Cradian Empire to collect it. Expeditionists killed or missing in action will have their salaries provided to their families or other next of kin.   The resources available to Expeditionists in The Redshift Zone must be requested with reason. Gear available on request includes the items in the Weapons, Armors, and Adventuring Gear tables in the Player's Handbook. Rare spell foci and Potions of Healing are exceptions; any potions should be handled by the R.E.C.'s @Apothecary.
