Margrethe Thøgersen is the Grandmaster Shipwright head of the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild and friend to Ingrid Mortensen, Queen of Danyund.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Though Margrethe Thøgersen is reaching the end of middle age, she is still healthy and active.

Body Features

Margrethe Thøgersen is relatively tall and solidly built, as expected of a woman that has spent her entire life working in shipyards, shaping timbers and forging ship fittings. Even nearing what most would consider her senior years, she is strong and physically fit.

Facial Features

Margrethe has fairly plain, even rugged, features, and is not considered beautiful by most. Her face is tan and a little roughened from exposure to the sun and weather, but she is not blemished or scarred. She still has long, thick, dark blond hair that she usually keeps braided.

Special abilities

Margrethe Thøgersen is an expert sailor and ship captain. She is also a very skilled and knowedgeable administrator, shipwright, naval architect, woodworker, and blacksmith, able to work copper, bronze, and iron.

Apparel & Accessories

As the wealthy head of a successful shipyard and Grandmaster Shipwright of the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild, Margrethe Thøgersen wears well-made, costly, but practical clothes of sturdy, but finely woven wool and linen. She doesn't wear much jewelry, but the jewelry she has and occasionally wears (especially at more formal occasions) is of the highest quality that can be obtained in Danhabn.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Margrethe Thøgersen is the only daughter and only child of Torsten Thøgersen, the previous owner of Thøgersen Shipbuilding, the family shipyard, and previous Grandmaster Shipwright of the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild. Having no sons, Torsten Thøgersen started teaching his daughter how to design and construct North Sea Dragon Ships, longships, and clinker-built fishing and cargo boats from an early age. He taught her everything he knew about crafting in wood, copper, and iron, design for seaworthiness, as well as sailing and rowing. She built her first small clinker-built sailboat when she was nine years old and often sailed it, alone or with friends, around the Danhabn harbor. By the time she was twelve, she was working with her father alongside the shipwrights and laborers designing and building ships and boats of all sizes. When she was seventeen, she designed a new rigging system for Dragon Ship and longship sails that enabled them to sail into the wind (windward or upwind) much more efficiently. At that point, she was named a Master Shipwright by acclamation by the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild - the youngest ever.   Margrethe met the future queen of Danyund, Ingrid Markussen (now Queen Ingrid Mortensen) when she was still in grade school, as the Thøgersen and Markussen families were well known and considered friends and allies in Danhabn. The future queen often accompanied Margrethe sailing around the harbor waters of Danhabn, and they became fast friends, and still are at the present. Queen Ingrid considers Margrethe brilliant (and she is) and often consults with her regarding matters both personal and political.   Though Margrethe had several suitors when she was younger, she was never considered beautiful, and the more traditional men of Danhabn found her shipbuilding work (which she loves) off-putting, even intimidating. For Margrethe, the idea of giving up ship designing and building was unthinkable, and so she never married nor had children. She sometimes regrets that, and at times feels lonely, but her work keeps her too busy to dwell for long, and she has many friends that she spends her free time with.   When Margrethe was 38 years old, her father passed away suddenly, and by acclamation, she took over as Grandmaster Shipwright of the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild. She has headed the Guild for 22 years now. Running the affairs and business of the Guild leaves her little time to do the hands-on work of building ships, and she misses that, but she still oversees the design and construction of the larger and important Dragon Ships. She is a capable and thorough administrator, not afraid to wield the full weight of the Guild when necessary, but also able to use her influence within the Danyund royal family and her contacts throughout Danhabn to attain her personal goals and those of the Guild.

Education

Margrethe attended a prestigious grade school open to the nobility and influential families of Danhabn until she was ten years old. After that, she was taught the shipbuilding trade by her father and other skills by her mother, Elena Thøgersen.

Employment

Margrethe Thøgersen owns Thøgersen Shipbuilding and is the Grandmaster Shipwright of Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Margrethe Thøgersen was the youngest person ever to become a Master Shipwright of the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild, acclaimed by the guild when she was just seventeen years old after designing new rigging for Dragon Ship and longship sails that allows them to sail to windward faster and much more efficiently.

Intellectual Characteristics

Margrethe Thøgersen is recognized throughout Danyund as brilliant - organized, creative, logical, and focused. She can be ruthless when it comes to promoting the interests and goals of the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild, and though law-abiding, she is not squeamish about using somewhat "extralegal" methods to see that her orders and instructions are carried out and competitors are discouraged from opposing her. She can be impatient with people and situations she sees as stupid and often is blunt about pointing them out.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Margrethe Thøgersen is motivated by her duties as the Grandmaster Shipwright of the Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild and owner of Thøgersen Shipbuilding, the shipyard of the Thøgersen family.

Hygiene

Though she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty by working hard, Margrethe Thøgersen keeps herself clean and well-groomed, as befitting a powerful and influential woman of Danhabn, associate and friend of Queen Ingrid Mortensen.

Social

Family Ties

Margrethe Thøgersen maintains fairly loose and rather tense relations with the extended Thøgersen family, most of whom are only maneuvering to be named heir to the very profitable Thøgersen Shipbuilding company and otherwise care little about Margrethe. Margrethe is well aware of this and has made her own plans for who will succeed her, but has not shared them with anyone.   Margrethe is somewhat closer to her cousins on her mother's side, who are generally less ambitious.

Speech

Margrethe Thøgersen generally speaks clearly and with authority. She is accustomed to giving orders and instructions and seeing them carried out. She can be impatient and sarcastic with people that fail to follow her directions or do so incompetently.

Wealth & Financial state

Margrethe Thøgersen is quite wealthy. Thøgersen Shipbuilding, the shipyard she owns, is quite successful and profitable, and her role as Grandmaster Shipwright of Danhabn Shipwrights' Guild earns her considerable compensation.
