The Calamity of Hepatotus

  The Institute of Arcane Artists, often just called the Institute, develop in direct reaction to the disaster of Hepatotus. They sought to prevent disasters from causing such catastrophic loss of life, but more importantly, to preserve artifacts and knowledge of ancient wizards. Many important artifacts were consumed by the disaster and non-arcanists have been rightly skeptical of powerful magic users since, so the Institute also serves to convince rulers that they will self-regulate from now on.
