Kellanna Ahlberg

Kellanna Ahlberg

Kellanna—a young country girl who lives as a beast more often than not as she flees Destov’s military—and their mage hunters.

Physical Description

Body Features

Kell’s body is that of a frail, starved and crippled young woman. Her bones protrude sharply, her spine is hunched. Her limbs distorted by atrophy, her right shoulder is bulbous with internal scar tissue.
Her experience in captivity has taken a massive toll on her; her body is a record of her trials—proof of her survivors spirit.
Though she’s been ruined by fear, pain and labour, her shadow is haunted by the ghost of who she could have been. Her hollow, pale eyes. Limp, lifeless hair, grown long and tangled. A smile, thin and fragile as glass. She may be broken—but she could have been beautiful.

Facial Features

Washed out blue eyes. Stringy, dull brown hair. Papery lips. Sunken cheeks and eyes. Her freckles are the only colour to her skin, pale gold flecks that shine in the light. It’s not hard to make out the shape of her skull beneath her flesh, thin as she is.
She’s afraid. Always afraid. It shows in the white around her eyes, the teeth she’s quick to show, every twitch at every sound. There is no sign of happiness past or present. If she smiled, her face would probably crack and break like the porcelain she resembles.

Identifying Characteristics

Kell is the picture of the fate-forgotten vagabond—unless you’re looking for her, she may as well be invisible. A feature of the background, frail and insignificant.
Plain as her appearance is, her eyes and freckles stand out somewhat among other lost souls as perhaps more intense and present than her state should define.
Additionally, her left side is marred by smooth red lichtenberg scars after her encounter with a behir, and her forearms are branded by the nul-magic cuffs that were used to control her abilities in captivity.

Physical quirks

An old dislocation that was never properly set has left her right shoulder swollen and stiff, nearly immobilized with scar tissue. She holds that arm close to her body, out of the way and secure.

Special abilities

Kell is a druidic shapeshifter, and due to her human body’s poor condition she spends a lot of time in her beast forms.
While transformed, her shoulder injury disappears—though, her brands and the lightning scars remain.
Despite the wide variety of beast forms she can take, they tend to have similar colouration universally. Be she a bear, wolf, mink or deer, her hide will tend to be pale silvery grey on her back and body, fading to darker grey on her legs. Patterns of spots—typically grey with speckles of buff hair—are present in forms that commonly have markings.
Her eyes in beast form are colourless grey.

Apparel & Accessories

Kell takes what she can get. Her armour and clothes were gifted by the lizardfolk of Raven’s Roost, designed for adjustability and mobility—which suits her perfectly well, as her anatomy is not entirely stable. Her damaged shoulder is protected by a fur-lined pauldron. She wears a woven grey wool shawl for warmth, and ratty clothes under her leathers.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Kellanna Ahlberg was born and raised on a farm on the outskirts of Destov. She was eventually discovered by Desrovian soldiers and claimed for use in the military as a beast of burden; the farm was burned as punishment for concealing Kell’s abilities.
She remained in captivity with Destov for a year, exploited for the resilience her bestial forms offered, and her inexpensive upkeep. She lived in a haze of exhaustion and pain, learning to fear touch and attention and growing more and more downtrodden as her condition deteriorated.
Ezra’s arrival stirred things up. Her demeanour caught her attention, so Kell stuck with her. Ezra was special. She wasn’t supposed to be here.
While Kell may have been forgotten by fate, Ezra’s path lead to freedom—and Kell followed her. She now aims to escape Destov entirely and begin a life somewhere safe, where she can live as a beast or a girl without the fear of slavery.

Mental Trauma

Due to her experiences in captivity, Kell has a huge fear of attention. Being seen and addressed is something she tries to avoid at all costs. If she speaks up, it’s only for very important reasons.
Kell also has trauma regarding being touched; she reacts violently to unsolicited physical contact, and only rarely initiates herself.
Kell has been through a lot. Her spirit lives, but her mind and body are badly damaged.

Social

Social Aptitude

For all that she has suffered, Kell has the heart and soul of a rural farm girl—she is sincere and kind, likeable in her shyness. Her heart is plain on her tattered sleeve.

Mannerisms

Like a frightened animal, Kell’s behaviour tends to be subdued and unpredictable. She’s timid, but she’ll turn on a dime if she feels threatened. Despite her aversion to touch, she seems to have a close relationship with the animal spirits she summons from time to time, allowing them to watch her while she sleeps.

Speech

Kell speaks quickly and quietly—unobtrusive and hesitant.

Wealth & Financial state

Destitute
