Atlas Tyche (a.k.a. Lucky Man)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Life is a game of chance and circumstance, much like the games that absorbed a youth surrounded by Port Datfin’s dirty luxuries. In Datfin, respect is won and lost in the casinos, and this is how society operates. Foolish aristocrats enter and leave, reduced to the status of an animal or slave in a night. The city council are the house, the people its patrons. Take care to accept coin from a man of Datfin, for his earnings may trace you back to blood and treachery.   Orphan Atlas had bounced between foster families in his infant years, the product of his original family gambling away their firstborn. Eventually settling for a time, his new rich guardians educated him in the art of luck and the skill of chance. When he came of age, Atlas began playing in the hazy gambling dens of Datfin, and worked his way up. His family would admonish him for the financial losses he caused them, but they persistently postulated that his potential would come to please them.   So it happened that one long evening, Atlas put his best foot forward against a noble with much naivety and a lack of sobriety. He was a clergyman, on a cruise with folk as well off as him, and with an eager purse. Normally, the cunning Altas Tyche would not gamble with the royals, but he saw real profit here. Several matches later, and the nescient noble hit rock bottom. Coming to his senses in outrage, the priest threw magic at Tyche, and the gambler escaped a burning building carrying bags overflowing with fresh riches. Atlas Tyche always got his share, and tonight he returned to find his surprise allotment of betrayal. The Tyche came to take away all his earnings, but not before a wry gnomish scientist intervened. Xeras Kolpek rescued Atlas from the corrupt Tyche and incited him to join the Silver Sun, a mercenary syndicate that hunts wanted criminals and erases individuals deemed threats to their shady trade operations. Atlas developed an interest for Xeras and her techmaturgical contraptions, namely firearms. Some practice later, and she found him a natural fit for the erratic technology: a compulsive young gambler willing to take chances. Xeras outfitted Atlas with his own set of firearms, and a unique ammunition to complement his style.   Altas Tyche became a hunter for Silver Sun, a mercenary designed to delete unwanted men. The Silver Sun made use of his gambling habits to secure big money against their foes, and Atlas has always received his fair share, a streak he makes sure never ends. Accomplices were never his to keep, and he holds his missions’ secrets to himself. As far as Atlas Tyche is concerned, life is just a game, and he’s ready to turn it around when his luck runs out.

Employment

Atlas is a mercenary in service to the Silver Sun, a syndicate that hunts criminals and politicians deemed threats to their organization.

Failures & Embarrassments

As firearms are a relatively new technology conceived by the engineer Xeras Kolpek, their tendency to misfire leaves occasions of profound embarrassment and crisis, especially in the middle of combat.

A loose cannon from Datfin, Atlas Tyche is a compulsive gambler both in the casino dens and in the field as a bounty hunter.
