Captain Brooke Thorn

Captain Brook 'The Goddess' Thorn is currently a living legend in The Cobalt Isles. While there is intense competition among pirate captains to be the most famous, Captain Thorn is the undoubted winner in this. Her flag still flies and her legacy is still being written. Born on the Island of Mistros her childhood was a long chain of breaking rules and rebelling. However even at the young age she devoured the various histories of the world and had a clear intelligence over most of her peers. Despite her father being absent for significant blocks of her life, when he returned and asked for her to take to the sea with him she jumped at the chance to explore. She was mentored for the next two years to take her father's place as captain when he died. Eventually the old man died of sickness and the senior members of the crew gave her one month to prove that she should be leading them out of respect for him. However, within a week she had proven herself more competent, sharper, braver and smarter than her father had ever been. At the end of the month only two of the crew wished to leave the ship, and that was to retire to Aerule Isle. The ambition of the young Captain Thorn was an unchecked commodity. Armed with the knowledge of all the histories of the great captains and pirate kingdoms she seeked to carve out her own style. While starting out following the same routes as every other famous pirate, robbing ships and taking hostages she soon changed course to build a protection company. Offering greater pay to captains of other merchant escort companies she soon had a significant fleet under her command. With most of the merchant houses and banks paying her to protect their shipping lanes she blanketed all of them with ships under her command. The pirate threat was ever present and there was no end to their business. When capturing a pirate ship she would sometimes offer them the chance to join her organisation. But more often than not she would leave their ship burning with the crew on it. Brook Thorn has a reputation for being absolutely ruthless to her enemies, but any of her friends and colleagues speak of her great generosity. The two faces of her has helped manipulate the people around her to seek alliances rather than battle. However, the great pirate Captain Almanzo Hale took exception to the young woman changing the face of Cobalt Isle piracy to completely. He amassed a huge fleet of pirates to do battle with her. The various pirates joined the battle in an attempt to bring things back to the way things used to be, not understanding the golden age of piracy had ended. Brook mustered her fleets for the confrontation, the years of stable income her organisation had enjoyed meant all of her ships were in perfect maintenance and the crews sharp. The battle took place over three days and by the end of it Captain Almanzo Hale was in chains on her deck watching his ship sink beneath the waves. The pirate was hung in a cage from the front of her ship, his skeleton remains today. She was known to the Avarnian army when they invaded her home island of Mistros. Her mother and brothers were slaughtered by the Avarnian's in an attempt to bring her into a rash confrontation with their superior Navy. Upon hearing this she got madly drunk and proclaimed she would amass the largest fleet in the world, to put Captain Moller to shame, and kill every Avarnian she could find. It is unknown whether she regrets making such a proclamation to the world, but under Mistros tradition, it is a legally binding promise as she bought a round of drinks for the entire bar after saying it. Since then she has been sailing all across The Cobalt Isles and the wider world attempting to garner support for an assault of Avarniom.
