Cyclical Magick

The tides of the cosmos are not so unpredictable, you just don't know what to look for.

As the Primordials brought order to the Void, and as Chaos fought back, a new kind of magick was formed from the conflict. The newly made planets were the crucibles for it, as their gravity twisted and pulled the currents of Luminous and Chaotic magick, and thus creating Cyclical magick. The magick itself forms into great ethereal gears around planets, matching the pace of their rotations, and the movements of these gears mark and manage the passage of time and are responsible for the cycles of growth and decay; the space between gears acts as the path for the currents of Luminous and Chaotic magick.

The use of Cyclical magick is a particularly difficult field of study, even as magick as a whole is considered. Many men have wasted away studying the movements of stars and planets, only to go mad before their ends. Some, however, manage to find meaning in every minute detail of the cosmos, and use observations of more tangible objects to determine the formulae that govern the vastness of the Universe. The formulae discovered are known to the first Seers as the "Mathematicoi," and have been found to be an unchanging and reliable format for predicting the movement of the ethereal gears; a master Seer or Oracle is able to make calculations of the Universe completely mentally, as his or her mind has been trained and exercised often for decades to attain perfect insight.

Mortals who have managed to decode the written laws behind the Universe, and those trained to do so by their predecessors, are referred to as Seers and Oracles. Such people are highly valued by all, and professional Seers can live in greater luxury than even most nobles, if they are so inclined; the luxury alone gives them more time to focus on perfecting their ability to calculate mentally. Prophets also glimpse the future, but their sight comes from far beyond any measure of their own comprehension. Among the greatest students of the Cyclical magick are Illos, king of the Domvari, and Kshk, the Elder Lord.
A Cre'ekish Seer

The earliest mortal Seers came from the Cre'eki humans during their reign in Garta'Jun. One of the Elder Lords, Kshk the Frog Lord, takes a particular interest in Cyclical Magick as part of the Great Game. Scholars who know of this enigmatic being speculate that the first mortal Seers were taught by it in their dreams; only the knowledge held by Illos, king of the Domvari, surpasses the hundreds of billions of years the Frog Lord has spent in the pursuit of knowledge.

Author's Notes

More detail may, or must, come with time, especially as I flush out the specifics of Seers, Oracles, and Prophets, their differences, and how the Elder Lord Kshk fits into the establishment of Cyclical magick as a proper school of study on Deia.
