Shaelria

"They called me mad when I first spoke of granting minds to beasts. Yet what greater gift could a mother bestow than the power to choose one's own destiny?"
  • Shaelria's declaration to the Ayn Auline

    Dawn of the Beast-Speaker

In the earliest days of Zerthia, when mountains were young and forests newly risen from bare earth, Shaelria emerged among the first hundred Eeirendel. Her awakening heralded the first stirrings of consciousness among beasts — birds taking wing through virgin skies, wolves weaving their songs into the fabric of ancient woods.
"Creation flows through my veins as the pulse of every living creature. Each heartbeat echoes mine, each breath mirrors my own."
Her form shifted with the seasons — sometimes as a radiant woman crowned with antlers and cloaked in living fur, other times as an effervescent being of light encircled by reverent animals. Her eyes shimmered with the wisdom of every creature, holding a quiet promise of protection.

    The Sacred Voice

From her first breath, Shaelria spoke for the voiceless. While her divine siblings claimed the dominion of elements and celestial phenomena, she championed the beating hearts of Zerthia's untamed denizens. She viewed every creature, no matter how small or ferocious, as part of her sacred family.

    The First Stirrings

Long before The Awakening, Shaelria observed the flickers of higher thought among her children. Ravens crafting tools, elephants remembering lifetimes, wolves organizing in intricate packs — these glimmers of something greater fueled her conviction that nature's creatures could rise beyond instinct.

    The Council of Beasts

Shaelria established the Council of Beasts, a revolutionary gathering of emissaries from each species. Guided by their collective wisdom, the council offered guidance to balance the wild forces shaping Zerthia. The smallest ant's concerns stood equal to the mightiest dragon's, their unity becoming a precursor to her greatest act of rebellion.
"Balance requires voice. Every creature, from the mighty dragon to the humble ant, must be heard. For in their collective wisdom lies the truth of existence."

    The Sacred Bonds

Her partnership with Sitive, the Life-Giver, brought forth extraordinary beings. These first creations — dream-speaking cats, shadow-walking wolves, and memory-weaving birds — bridged the magical and the mundane, showcasing her evolving vision of sentience.

    The Great Vision

As the Black Fire loomed on the horizon, Shaelria foresaw a dire future: a world where unthinking instinct could not survive the coming chaos. She realized that her children needed the gifts of reason, wisdom, and choice to endure.

    The Great Ritual

Under the light of three full moons, Shaelria began The Awakening. With care and intent, she selected species she believed ready to ascend — the bear clans of the north, the wolves of the misty woods, the great tigers of the eastern jungles. Into their hearts and minds, she poured a spark of divine essence, granting them the ability to think, dream, and shape their own fates.
"Let them rise from shadow into light, from instinct into thought. Through them, nature finds its voice. Through them, the wild gains wisdom."

    Divine Opposition

The Ayn Auline reacted with outrage. Many gods declared her actions a violation of the natural order, convening emergency councils to denounce her work as heresy. Yet Shaelria stood firm, knowing that the power of awakened minds would be vital in the battles to come.

    The Price of Awakening

Each gift of consciousness drained her divine essence, leaving her weaker with every act of creation. Still, she pressed on, empowering the Bear-Folk of Hangadia, the Veleosai of Sommeris, and the Taleron of Thronon to rise above their instincts and claim their destinies.

    The Final Gathering

When the Black Fire War finally erupted, Shaelria gathered her awakened children to a great congress. Leaders from the newly risen beast races formed alliances with the wild creatures still bound by instinct. Together, they forged strategies that shaped the future of Zerthia for millennia.
"Rise now, my children. You who walk in two worlds — wild and wise, natural and knowing. The future belongs to those who choose their path."

    The Last Sacrifice

As chaos threatened to unravel her children’s hard-won consciousness, Shaelria made the ultimate sacrifice. She drew the corruption into herself, purging it from her children at the cost of her divine form. In her final act, she ensured that The Awakening would endure, a legacy carved into the fabric of creation.

    The Eternal Legacy

The Bear-Folk became great philosophers and warriors, the Veleosai developed profound magics, and the Taleron mastered the art of survival. Each race bore Shaelria’s mark, blending instinct with intellect to create a new balance between nature and wisdom.

    The Shrine of Fauna

Where Shaelria fell, the Fauna Shrine now stands. This sacred place serves as a sanctuary for both awakened and wild beings, a testament to her dream of unity. Pilgrims journey from across Zerthia to honor her memory and renew her promise.

    The Promise Renewed

Each year at the shrine, the Awakened races gather to celebrate their freedom and reaffirm Shaelria’s vow: that wisdom shall never replace instinct, and that the harmony of nature and consciousness will endure for all time.
"Time flows like wind through ancient forests, but truth grows deep as roots in fertile soil. In every mindful beast, every conscious creature, every being that bridges thought and instinct — there you will find my victory, my vindication, my eternal love made manifest."
