Reclaimers
The Reclaimers
"We are not here to restore what was - that time is lost. We are here to shape what remains into something that can survive." — Unnamed Reclaimer Elder
Founded in the aftermath of the First Black Fire War by the disgraced gods Gartrin and Boria, the Reclaimers began as a movement of atonement. These fallen deities, having sided with the forces of corruption during the war, established the order to heal the wounds they had helped inflict upon Nolavor. Today, the organization exists as a loose confederation of druids, rangers, and guardians, each group adapting their ancient mandate to face modern threats.
Structure and Philosophy
Unlike their zealous predecessors, modern Reclaimers acknowledge that Nolavor can never return to its pre-war state. Instead, they focus on understanding and guiding the land's evolution, even as industrial corruption spreads. Their hierarchy is fluid, with different cells operating independently based on local needs. Leadership comes from those who demonstrate both power and wisdom, though few remain in command for long before the land's corruption takes its toll.
The Mistwatch
The most militant arm of the Reclaimers, the Mistwatch emerged in response to the industrialization of the Kanonos Region. Operating from hidden camps in the toxic mists that give them their name, these elite rangers and druids employ guerrilla tactics against industrial operations that threaten to destabilize the region's already fragile ecological balance. Their methods are often viewed as extreme, even by other Reclaimers.
Territories and Tactics
The Reclaimers maintain several types of holdings throughout Nolavor. Sacred groves, hidden temples, and underground sanctuaries serve as bases of operation. Their most important sites are built upon ley line intersections, where they work to purify the corrupted magical energies that still seep from Dead God Sites. The organization is particularly active in the borderlands between industrial zones and wilderness, where they struggle to contain the spread of pollution.
Modern Challenges
The rise of the Bloodclaw Warband's industrial empire presents the Reclaimers' greatest challenge. Every forge and mine threatens to upset delicate balances the order has spent centuries establishing. Yet some within the organization argue that industry itself isn't the enemy - rather, it's the reckless way the Bloodclaw tap into corrupted energy sources to power their operations that poses the true threat.
Rituals and Powers
Reclaimer magic blends traditional druidic practices with techniques specifically developed to combat industrial corruption. Their most powerful rituals involve redirecting toxic energies into contained cycles of decay and renewal. Senior members learn to commune with manifestations of Nolavor's pain - spirits of poisoned rivers, embodiments of polluted earth, and other entities born from the land's suffering.
Relations with Other Powers
The Reclaimers maintain complex relationships with Nolavor's other factions. They trade information with Kurgan's network when it serves their purposes, occasionally work alongside the Order of the Ghostslayer when undead threats emerge from corrupted zones, and maintain an uneasy détente with Grizburg's authorities. Their relationship with the Kurnok tribe is particularly nuanced, recognizing the tribe's connection to the land while opposing their darker practices.
Notable Operations
Recent Reclaimer activities have focused on containing industrial expansion in key territories: The Mistwatch's campaign against Bloodclaw mining operations in the Iron Edge Mountains Efforts to purify sections of the Sko River through ritual magic Protection of ancient groves that help filter Kanonos's toxic atmosphere Monitoring of Dead God Sites for signs of increasing corruption
Current Status
The Reclaimers face a pivotal moment in their history. The release of Azural and the stirring of ancient powers have intensified the very corruptions they fight against. Some within the order argue for more aggressive action, while others advocate for adapting their methods to work within Nolavor's new reality. The Mistwatch's increasingly militant stance reflects growing tensions within the organization about how best to fulfill their original mandate.
"The land remembers what it was, but it also knows what it must become. Our task is not to resist change, but to ensure there is something left worth changing into." — Moridec, Mistwatch Commander
